Penn waitlist class of 2019

@valarmorghulis That is the question here. On another note, where all you committed as of now?

(ah ok thanks @interest82 )
And the form works for me now

@valarmorghulis Yeah same for me too, although it doesnt give any sort of confirmation. It just directs you into the portal landing page.

@interest82 same for me, hopefully they are trying to narrow down who is still interested to make sure people they accept off the waitlist actually attend-- hopefully us?

Are you guys saying yes? At this point, I would only go to Penn if the financial aid was more generous than what I’ve currently got (and my current offer is very generous). I would feel bad if I get accepted off the wait list and then end up not going. Of course, the chances of me getting off the wait list are still slim.

Hopefully. Have you sent in any Letter of Continued Interest since the April 15th deadline?

@pmmywest Where have you committed to?

I think it’s possible that some people will get accepted in the next few weeks (since many other ivies are still considering students on the waitlist). Which schools did you apply to?

Hello,
I’m completely new to this College Confidential forum (and forums in general) and I was also waitlisted at Penn. Since I already committed to a school that I am very happy with and don’t see my plans changing in the future, I decided to withdraw my application. I used the link provided in the email to submit a “No” response, but the system doesn’t seem to register it. I’m not sure if there is just a delay in the system or if I should email the admissions office. What do you guys think? Also, if you guys suggest emailing the admissions office, how do I go about telling them I don’t want to be on the waitlist (it seems like it would be an awkward email to write)? Thanks guys!

@interest82 the university of chicago

@jaymx97 you could try the link again in a couple hours, maybe it will work better later. I don’t think you need to email admissions, I think they will take your lack of a detected response as indication that you are no longer interested.

So did everyone get the email? If no one got a rejection email this probably isn’t the same thing as the extended wait list from previous years

I don’t think it is a rejection email this early.

There are still some students who are deciding between schools. I would guess that as they see more results coming in, they want to be sure that they have a current list of students with a strong interest before they extend any additional offers.

@Much2learn Are there still students deciding between schools? I thought that May 1 was the deadline to do that. OR are these students the ones who where already were taken off the waitlist?

@Mualpha7 It was, but there are students who reserved a spot at 2 schools. Also there may be students who have accepted a place, but change their mind when they get off the waitlist at another school.

Imagine the chain of events that happens when a student who has reserved a place at Penn gets of the waitlist at Harvard, and decides to attend Harvard. Penn then has a place to fill. They may be contacting a student who had accepted at Columbia. If that student selects Penn, Columbia then has a place to fill. They may be contacting a student who had accepted at U Chicago or Duke. Now those schools have a place to fill.

Just one top student changing schools can cause a large daisy chain of activity. That is why it takes time, and the schools themselves do not know where they will end up.

@Much2learn I see. Thanks for the great explanation!

I am pretty sure it is not awkward, because their yield rate is only 66%, they definitely receive a lot of email of not accepting spots.

@jaymx97

When confirming your wait list, did your portal update to reflect this? My son’s did not update.

@JB1019 I think everybody is experiencing the same issue
