What do you think? Any enjoyable experiences in Penn classrooms?

I visited one class and that classroom was amazing.

management 100 sounds a lot like the apprentice...kinda cool huh?

is that a first year class? If it is, isn't it supposed to be management 101 or management 1001?

first semester of freshman year...i just took it from upenns website

oh, that's interesting. I was under the impression that introductory classes all ended in either 101 or 1001. I guess i was wrong.

I heard that MGMT 100 blows...

The class that I sat in on was pretty entertaining, though.

MGMT 100 sounds like a blast though

intro econ is 001 or 002, and intro physics is 140/141/150/151, so the 101 rule doesn't apply for penn as a rule.

I had an AMAZING music class. It was my spring term electives. There were 7 kids in the class, the teacher was a brilliant composer (I was impressed that they had him teaching entry level), and I learned how to compose and arrange.

Also, there were a few times where he'd let someone pick a song and start singing the melody. Then we'd go around the room and we'd all have to harmonize for 10 seconds or so.

It was awesome b/c even those of us who couldn't sing felt comfortable enough trying, and we had some good laughs.

wow. I was thinking about being a music minor since most of my high school experience is all about music. Sounds great!

What do you think about bio or the rest of the science classes? Any fun/interesting points in 'em?

Michael: thanks for clearing that up

Have fun with mgmt 100. You will learn to hate it very very fast.

eighteenforluck, can you specify what class you took and who was the prof? I'm thinking about taking MUSC 070. Thanks.

negotiations class. Hotness.

Any class with Avery Goldstein.

Psyc-001 (though I hear shatte is leaving..pity)

music 070 and the other one with history seem to be too basic...
is there test in the music department like the "internal AP test" offered by math department?

regurg...if you sign up for music 070, they test you on the first day. the results will split you into three groups: an advanced group, a beginner/intermediate group, and a group who they recommend go straight to music 071. this would probably be the best route for you to take, unless you're already confident that you can start out with 071.

There are classes that sux and classes that are terrific, depending on professors most.

i was a non-humanity freak but unbelievably i enjoyed all Penn humanity classes immensely. i took religions of the west (and i myself wasn't in any of those religions), brave new worlds (engl seminar), american pop culture. they were fun and creative, and i didnt have to be an expert to get an A. the readings were fun but painful (200+ pg/wk in the summer).

bio classes were good, although i hoped the prof were more open, more accessible. things were so attached to textbooks, but in general the prof's are good teachers and they know the stuff well. the TA's sux.

some phys prof like lockyer are awesome. they're nice, accessible, good teachers, and excited about what they teach even at entry level. The same applies for chem.

but after all i conclude that math classes (intro level) sux.

TAs always suck.

some TA's are really good, and I find some teachers who are not on tenure track very cool too. I don't know what tenure track does for teaching undergrad courses at Penn, but it doesn't really matter. Maybe their experience after being TA's make them better teachers. Oddly enough some of the courses taught mainly by grad students (not TA) are really cool.

but yeah, the fact of life is that some of them are sux.
