What are you first impressions of your fall classes so far? The professors? The students? The material?

Finance: Professor seems cool, hopefully the material will be engaging.

Business Software Development: Should be fun

Intro to Logistics: Professor is nice, super enthusiastic about the material, it should be interesting. She’s pretty good looking too so that’s a huge plus.

Business Law: It’ll be dense but the prof seems good. Really old-school type of instructor but that can be good.

Transportation: Promises to be very fun and interesting.

All of my classes seem reasonably good so far, except English. I don’t know how I got into this woman’s class, but it was the only English left available (go figure) and she did not hesitate to let us know in advance that the class would be gruesomely difficult and that she rarely hands out As. So, I’m a little nervous about that, but I like a challenge lol so I’m sure I will get alot out of it.

Finance: Every bit as hard as the reports/rumors suggested it would be and every bit as engaging and fulfilling (I foresee a great challenge in my future).

Bus. Perspectives (AKA Ethics): It’s a Pass/Fail, so…

Computer Skills: Same as Ethics

Intro to PMC: The most boring class in the history of all boring classes with the King of Boring Professors.

Principles of Marketing: Mildly challenging, if the intense/passionate professor is anything to go by.

Victorian Novel: Probably the easiest English class I’ve taken in a while; very sweet professor; lots and lots of morbid/depressing reading, of course.

Modern Dance I: We’ll see when we get to the actual dancing…but if the professor is anything to go by, it should be a good physical challenge (which I need because I never exercise without motivation).

And that’s my semester. Talk to me again in December, after my brain’s fried from seven class (and yet, only 16 credits…).

Freshman Seminar: Nice class, too bad we actually had to write 2 papers before the end of the semester. It’s supposed to be a class that teach you how to live on campus and use college resources.

English: Not too bad, we are studying satire most of the semester. Watching the Colbert Report and the Stewart Show is a nice touch. But hated the room not having AC.

Public Policy: Great teacher, very funny. He loves to make fun of political figures and people in the classroom.

Political Theory: Same as above, but with a Romanian accent when talking…funny!

Enviro Physics: Boring class, the professor is okay. He like to ramble on about lectures and such. He said that if you don’t have a B average in general physic in high school, you’d have a slightly hard time learning in the latter half of semester. Oops! Oh, well…I’ll deal with it.

Japanese 101: I like the class and I’m working so hard to learn the language. It’s just really hard to feel confident in what you know when you have a HYPERPOLYGLOT in your class who already knows basic-to-intermediate Japanese. Both the discussion teacher and the lecture teacher are from Japan, so the language barrier also makes it difficult.

Web-Based Multimedia Communications: I only have it on Mondays and it’s only the first week. So I can’t really judge it.

Politics of Language (seminar): The concept is interesting but we haven’t really had an actual discussion yet. Teacher is from London so his ideas on American politics are really interesting to hear.

Language and Identity (seminar): Very interesting ideas about what makes an identity and how we use language to define/change/discover our identity. Teacher’s also very laid back and genuinely interested in what we have to say.

US History from 1865: I really like my professor and he really seems like all he wants for us is to succeed. He put the lecture outlines up for the whole semester so we can take notes off of those and he allows us to use our notes for our quizzes each week so that he knows we understand the material.

Beginning German: I really like my professor and my class. She’s pretty much blatantly said a couple of times that she likes our class better than her others. I’ve actually found the homework to be enjoyable and I think she’s a good teacher.

Sociology of the Family: I have a blatantly liberal professor who doesn’t mind ragging on the Conservatives. While, I don’t care what my professor’s political opinions are, I just wish that they would be left out of the classroom as a whole whether I agree with their opinions or not. He rambles the entire class. But it’s only half a semester, so I’ve only got seven more weeks of him.

Costume Construction: I really enjoy it and I like my professor. The class is only eight students, so I think it’s going to be a lot of fun getting to know everyone.

French Children’s Litterature: I like the teacher and the subject material, but she’s already canceled class once, so it’s hard to say. I’ve only had it two times so far this semester.

Intermediate Acting: Haven’t even met the professor yet. She was off working on some play or movie or something coaching the actors on their dialects. So instead we’ve been stuck with the directing class, which has been interesting.

Elementary Japanese: This class is gonna require some work (especially memorizing kanji), but so far I like it. My professor is so nice and really helpful, too.

US History to 1877: Second easiest class so far. I really like my professor, and it helps that he’s not too hard on the eyes… lol. The lectures are kind of boring, but he does what he can to keep 150 students interested.

Intro to International Relations: I love this class! My professor is amazing, and I think this will be my absolute favorite class this semester.

Cultural Anthropology: The class has only met twice so far, but it’s terribly boring. Definitely the least demanding.

Math: My professor is kind of clueless, but the subject itself isn’t bad at all.

Music Appreciation: Online. The class consists of doing listening exercises/tests and participating in a discussion board. Easiest class ever, though.

Intermediate Japanese - I love learning Japanese and I’m sure I’ll enjoy it but this year’s professor is an old woman and though she explains it well, talks rather haughtily and is a little difficult to get used to listening to. The class seems too slow for me at times but I am not good enough to go into Third-year Japanese, but it will be good for really letting the skilled set in.

Japanese History - far too much reading assigned already. The professor’s lecture is quite interesting though and helped summarize it, but it will be a battle to stay on top of reading this semester. But the subject is interesting to me, so it will be good.

Piano - the teacher is good at explaining things, and I’m glad we’re starting off at a slower pace.

Machine Architecture - the labs seem like they will be less hassle then last year’s computer classes, but I’m worried that a lot will be unloaded on us at once. I sincerely hope this is less stressful than Programming 1 and more comparable or comes easier than Programming 2. Professor seems good, but I’m honesty scared of the warning he gave about the class being one of the more troublesome ones in the major.

Statistics - I really like the grade basis and the professor seems nice. A bit apprehensive since he warned the material will be hardest at the mid-beginning.

Biogeography - I think this will be easy. The book is nice and short and floppy with bigger font and more pictures than most of my other textbooks. I’m interested in what the labs will be like and if there will be a lot of write ups to do in the class. Professor seems very friendly and well meaning.

Overall I’m a bit frazzled because I don’t want to get more sleep this semester but it looks like it will just not be the case unfortunately.
I need to work hard and not slack on the weekend.

Physics— Professor isn’t really a part of that department and he doesn’t do well connecting the material to the students so we understand it. Plus there’s a lot of wasted time. This whole week so far has been spent going over each homework problem in excessive detail.
Hydrology— one of my fav. professors, hence me taking a class with him again. That, and I decided to minor in hydro. Small class, only 13 or so of us, which makes it more comfortable. Can be difficult at times.
Calc. 2---- Professor is nice and is detailed in explanations… however, based on what my last professor taught me and based on what this one seems to expect… myself and a few others are way behind and not doing well so far. Very difficult class, with a lot of surprise quizzes that I end up failing. Yay.
Public Speaking— We haven’t really done a whole lot yet. Fellow students are really nice though.
Forecasting---- the professor is intelligent and knows what he’s talking about, but is not the most interesting person to listen to some times. Just yesterday about three people had fallen asleep in class.

Accounting 1: Seems easy so far. All the answers are on the textbook in the form of examples. Studying at home myself, what we did in class, seems to work best for me.

Speech: I liked it a lot until yesterday. The prof became a bit pushy, trying to force some stupid exercise down my throat. I didn’t want to do it, it was a waste of time, and making a big deal before a speech gets me nervous. Went from being my favorite class, now I am uncomfortable in it but I can’t drop it or change profs now.

English Composition 1: I liked it a lot, the teacher seems cool. He’s into science fiction. Gave us some interesting articles to make essays on. I should pass this class with an A.

Math: Haven’t taken it yet because last week was Labor day on the day of the class. I’ll find out tomorrow.

Page and Stage: This class is a bit more involved than I thought it would be. But I absolutely love the material and I already know a lot of it. The professor isn’t all that great. He’s a funny guy, but he’s not really good at explaining content. The TA is a lot better.

Deliberate Living (combined English/Freshman Seminar class): Everyone in the class is having difficulty. First of all, the class is 6 credit hours. I know it counts for two gen-ed requirements, but this just an insane amount of time to be in one class. We’re going through books at a rate of about one every two weeks. We have a lot of writing assignments, three were due at midnight this morning. And if they aren’t exactly what the professor wants, you get a bad grade, but he never tells you what it is he wants. He’s very cryptic, and very unwelcoming to dissenting opinions which is a bit of a problem in a discussion-based class. This class is going to be a struggle. I would transfer to one of 4 other offerings in my program to fulfill this requirement, all of which are easier, but because of the length this is the only one that works with my schedule.

Intro to Math: I’m enjoying this class a lot, which is weird because I usually hate math. I’m slightly worried about how well it will prepare me for Statistics. It’s overall pretty easy. Our professor is one of the more distinguished faculty at the school, so it’s interesting to see her teaching an intro course, but she does a very good job at it.

Production Running Crew I: Signed up for the “class” but won’t actually do anything until October.

please explain “intro to math”

It’s Math 1010, which pretty much the easiest math you can take without being in remedial (0010).

Here’s the official explanation, it gives a better description than I can:

“This course is designed for students NOT interested in science or business as majors, minors or career emphases. It covers applications of mathematics from algebra and geometry. Knowledge of high school algebra and geometry is assumed (with a little review for students who haven’t had those subjects in a while), and passing the math placement test is required.”

Basically, the focus is real world applications, and it’s for people who don’t actually need math for their major, they just want to get one of the gen-ed requirements knocked out.

Engagement class about female empowerment: I never experienced any of the growing pains that come with being a woman so some of the topics have been hard with me to connect to. Overall, I think it’s going to be a great class.

Anthropology capstone: Sigh. Already had to give a speech and bombed. Overall though I think it will be helpful. Just nervewracking.

Health geography: I think this class will be interesting but easy. I want to punch the 50 people in the class though that can’t sit down and shut up for an hour and a half. The prof is very, very nice and the other students are taking advantage of that.

Physical geography: It’s online and I haven’t done jack with it yet. Whoops…

American National Government: Great professor. He’s from Germany but has lived in the states for twenty years and knows our government and European governments inside and out. It’s a great addition to have in the political science class. The students, however, make me want to cry. I go to a small state school because of money issues, and now I know why I wanted to go somewhere a little higher up, “I don’t understand why we have to learn about Susan B. Anthony if I’m going to work somewhere like McDonalds or Burger King.”

Logic and Reasoning: Awesome class. The professor is a little bland but it’s a really interesting subject. And there’s only ten pages of reading per class most days, so it’s easy to handle, even though the professor makes the content difficult.

English 102 Research Writing: Kill. Me. Now. I worked as a state senate research assistant for five months. On top of that my high school had a pretty rigorous AP English teacher my senior year. Unfortunately my school only let me out of 101. The teacher has already gone on a tea-partier political rampage one class, and requires a text book that I don’t even bother reading already it’s so basic.

Intro to Theater: It’s required for my Communications major. It’s an okay class. Interesting enough. The professor is really nice. It’s just the people in class again. One looks and sounds like an ex. One is just incredibly pretentious but tries to act perfect. Loudly. And the other person who drives me nuts is an older lady who has to comment on EVERYTHING. No seriously, every comment the professor makes, this woman has some comment to add. I got stuck sitting by her the first day. She told one of my friends in the class, that my friends name sounded like “I have a vagina” (Evva Regina).

Social Problems: Best. Class. Ever. It’s absolutely awesome. While it’s one of those classes that people’s comments make me want to cry, they’re so misinformed and poorly thought out, the content is great and the professor is wonderful.

Intro to Linguistics: I love my professor. He is a crazy old man who got his Ph.D in Slavic languages and is so passionate about what he does and never fails to make us all laugh, although he can get a bit distracted at times.

Comparative Physiology (Biology): Again, another old professor. This is his last year teaching but he is the best biology professor in the department and everyone loves him. He is so funny and teaches so well that he makes everything wonderful.

Counseling: They are classes meant to teach you about career options, etc. with your major. I love my teacher. She is very sweet and wants us to be the best we can be. The classes (I’m taking two counseling classes) are easy-ish but are actually very informative.

History: Again, I’m taking two history classes with the same professor. She is awesome and so sweet and so nice. She really knows what she is talking about and both of the classes sound like they will teach me a lot and I love history, so I’m enough of a nerd that I’m super excited.

American Lit: Finally, my lit class. Again, a very old experienced professor is teaching. He is super southern but is very informative and really asks you to think about everything. He has the best discussions and the readings are great old classics.

Overall, I think it’s going to be a great semester and I’m very excited for this year.

Molecular Biology- The class seems OK; it’s most likely going to be harder than general biology but it looks more interesting. We have three professors this semester which I’m not a big fan of, but it will be interesting to see the different teaching styles. Plus, my dad’s a molecular biologist so I can always ask him for help.

Organic Chemistry A - Definitely going to be an intensive course. The professor for the first half is a funny guy but he teaches the concepts well and he’s a nice guy. There’s just so much more overall material than general chem and each concept goes into detail so it’s going to be hard, but I’m up for the challenge.

Spanish - Same old, same old. Not too hard, just a matter of acing the grammar quizzes and adding a lot of fluff to compositions and stuff. Professor is very nice. There’s this one girl who I wish I could just run out of town because she’s so annoying, but eh what can you do.

Holocaust and the Creative Impulse - This seems like a really cool course. We’re analyzing the role of music and other forms of artistic expression during the Holocaust. Professor is very knowledgeable and a lot of class involves watching films and speaking with survivors, so I’m really excited about it, provided this isn’t too hard of a course.

Animal Bio: Seems interesting enough–more so than I thought initially. And the professor is like your friend’s dad that cracks all the lame “dad” jokes but are still kinda funny just because they’re so lame. He did, however, give me a bit of a heart attack when he said the average exam score for the first test was about a 68%. The hell, dude?!

Animal Bio lab: The most useless TA in the history of useless TAs. He just basically sets things up with zero explanation to their order and lets us loose when the lab manual the department uses is about as unclear as it gets. I get it’s college and there is an assumed level of independence, but come on! 22 microscopes with random crap set up in it and you don’t think to tell us what we’re looking at? Sure…

Cell Bio: Nice professor and fairly interesting stuff. Although, not as interesting as I would’ve thought.

Cell Bio lab: The TA doesn’t really care about anything as long as we do the assignments and don’t destroy the equipment or have our phones out. So, I guess that’s okay.

Writing in Biology: My first thought: “How many aging hippies does this biology department have?!”

Megacities of Asia: Online…Discussion Boards make up most of the grade…A.

Survey of Art I: I’ve only had one class so far because of Labor Day, but so far the professor kinda bores me. I had to go to the museum for an assignment so that was interesting. But so far, not too engaging. I hope it picks up; I’m usually very excited about history classes.

Light Color Design I: I was really excited about this class at first but the professor does not know what he’s doing. I cannot for the life of me understand his approach. I ask him a question about hw, he goes completely off topic and starts talking about politics and philosophy. He says one thing the week before, then denies it the next. I could not switch out of that professor’s class fast enough. Better luck next week.

Intro to Literary/Critical Studies: LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS CLASS. It’s ironic because it is not an art class lol. The professor is awesome; so open about the text we discuss and he feels like a classmate. I’m really loving the atmosphere too, we don’t raise our hands or anything, just talk if you have something to say. It’s great.

Drawing: Figure and General: I really like this class, we’re so active and the professor is so energetic. I was worried about the nude models being very awkward, but our professor didn’t even give us time to react once they strip lmao. We learn a lot in a day.

4D Design: meh. I want to get into the 4D discipline, but the professor’s methods are kinda boring me (reading from handouts, video tutorials). And we’re kinda learning the basics of photoshop and illustrator, something I’ve picked up in hs. She’s nice though. Hopefully once we get into things like animation and soundtracks it’ll pick up.

3D Design: I’ve been arriving late to this class since day 1 and I really regret it because the professor does this thing where he gets the students into a group and has them talk about themselves so he can know about us a bit more. I really enjoy this class. I learn something new every time and I really enjoy building models. The professor is an enjoyable old man too.

Conclusion: The more active the class, the more fun I have.
