Does Northwestern compare applicants whom apply from the same highschool? I go to a very competitive, small private highschool where there will probably be 10 or more people applying. Many of these people will apply to NU as a match and not a reach. Will this affect my chances?

I'm curious about this too. So many people from my school are applying to NU.

I dont have an answer but how do you know how many/who at your school are applying to a certain school? ask around..?

Haha, well, I admit, I am estimating. That is why I said "10 or more". Each year a number of people (I am from the Chicago area) apply to NU. Also, again the school is small, and people talk about where they are applying and would like to go. I have heard many say they are applying to NU.

Ok, there are about 180-200 kids in each class at my school. And 70-80 apply to NU. And, quite nicely, 25-35 get in. But this year, it's hard to think of someone not applying to NU. I think we'll have maybe 100+ NU apps. Yes, my school is a highly competetive one in the Chicago area. But how does NU look at all these Chicago suburb kids? I'd really like to know.

Well, Northwestern statistically accepts more from Illinois than any other state, so I suppose it coorelates with the high amounts of applications they receive fro m Chicago.

Although, I must admit, it is nerve-wrecking to have so many people from the same school apply to NU.

yeah. there's usually around 100 people that apply from my chool usually 30-40 get in

I spoke to my college counselor and he said that they look at applicants individually.

Still...this all is very nerve racking.

Right, just like every university says they look at applicants wholistically. The truth of the matter is, it does make a difference if others from your school are applying because Northwestern will see they are from the same school.

Top public schools such as New Trier, Hinsdale Central, and IMSA will inevitabely have competition between their own students for spots at Northwestern because they can't accept a huge amount of students from a single school.

wrecking*

Cardene, thanks for the information. I am assuming it might be the same for top private schools in the area also, right?

I would safely bet that similar situations will be seen at the Latin School, Whitney Young, Northside Prep, etc.

Dang... about 80 people of about 200 seniors applied to NU from my school... dang.
