Water polo...........hmmmm???????
BRING IT ON, Mr. Werdoo!!!!!! :)

I am applying ED to Bates and i am sooo nervous because Bates is the only college i really want to go to, so if anyone has any extra information that could help me have a better chance I would love to have it

Wear a Cuck Folby shirt to your interview, haha.

(just kidding; don't really do that... interviewers might [keyword "might"] frown upon that)

P.S. to backinblue: IT'S ALREADY BEEN BROUGHT!!! :-P

Yes, I'm applying to Bates. Early decision actually. So yes, there are people out there. Bates is my dream school. I really hope I get in.

By the way, me too am applying ED to Bates.

P.S: To Mr. werdo, I didnt know there was such animosity betn Folby and Bates. Wud it help if i just put in a "screw Colby" innuedo in my admission essay?? ;)

haha,

"...In conclusion, my volunteer efforts with Amnesty International have greatly improved who I am as a person. Screw Colby."

I'm sure you'd win them over.

(disclaimer: I think it most likely would hurt your chances to put that in there, lol)

by the way, have any of you checked out Colby? Same callibur school with a gorgeous campus, incredibly friendly student body, affable staff, and quit a bit to do on the campus.

(I know Bates appeals to certain people over Colby, but jsut thought I'd throw in a suggestino to kids who are applying and haven't heard of Colby... I know I love Colby :-))

really what ARE the differences between Bates and Colby? call me an idiot, but i can't find one...
i guess my question is: why do you prefer Bates/Colby, and why?

Okay, I am Bates student who picked the school over Colby. I found Bates to have a much friendlier student body that was less preppy and athletic. Although Bates does have some preppy and athletic people, there are a lot of hippies and other types that create more diversity. Bates also does a pretty good job with financial aid, so there is more economic diversity here compared with the other nescac schools.

Basically, on paper there are very few differences between the schools, but you have to visit and meet the students to truly experience the differences.

I agree completely that you must visit the college-- each college appeals differently to different people. I for one love the Colby student body's friednliness and warmth. I also find there are more "preppy" kids than hippies in that a lot of people like to wear abercrombie, however, the clothes don't make the person, and I find there to be a good bit of personality diversity. Also, I find that it is true: a good amount of Mules are athletes, play club sports, or jsut liek to excercise in their free time.

I can tell you anything you want to know abotu Colby, but what I cannot do is compare Bates to Colby-- I've never even visited Bates. So, for all I know Bates may own Colby in every way, heh, but, heck, I'm more than satisfied with my Colby experience so far :-).

However, I really do stress, and will reiterate, that you should visit both schools; what appears to be awesome, diverse, or friendly to me or Rachie may be completely different to you :-).

Best of luck!

i'm def visiting both. like i said before, bates is flying me in so im excited about that. still waiting to hear from colby. i already visited both schools during august-but the students weren't on campus at the time and it just wasn't the same! either way, im pretty fond of both schools and would probably be happy with either...i think. any suggestions for what to do while on either campus?

What do you mean by flying you in? Just wondering. And do you know what kinds of GPAs Bates kids have?

lol.............i think i'll be wee bit more subtle that that.

On a slightly more serious note, does anyone know how much Bates fulfills the financial needs for international students??

All I know is that among the kids I've talked to in my year (class '09), Bates has spread its financial aid around to help a lot of kids come here. Some kids get an amazing financial aid package, some kids get alright ones, but what surprised me was the number of people I met who said that Bates was so good at giving financial aid that it was a deciding factor.
