sounds like one of those old wise tales...

Yes kids get in with those scores but I've never seen one where it was any mystery why.

Bleed if you dont believe me-then dont lol.Just trying to tell something interesting what I saw and experienced. It would be cool if you did the same

Ivy league isn't all about having perfect SAT scores... it's only one component of your application. I personally know of people who had less than a 2100 SAT and got into harvard (despite his saying he could never get in because of his SAT scores) and my other friend was rejected from harvard with a 2380. Moral of story... SAT isn't everything. Usually you need 2100+ to be competitive

harvard doesn't admit people arbitrarily.

choklit im not talking only about harvard. Its about all Ivy leagues(columbia princeton cornell etc)

also about harvard. Is it true that on your essay and interview if you can prove them that you are worthy of attending they can accept you,and not even look at your SAT and gpa that much?

What is your SAT I? And where do you plan on applying?

Hey guys, no ivy interviews anymore. There are some alumni interviews, but they are mostly informational and don't count unless you're a lunatic the interviewer warns the college about.

Disaster it doesnt matter where im applying thats not what im asking.Im just trying to find out how the application process works in schools like ivy league and if SAT score is everything

Of course it is not everything.
But don't think that it is nothing either. I remember reading that SAT scores can be correlated to IQs, and ACT scores can be a signal of probable college success. The people who get in with 1900s exhibit their ability to be successful in other ways. They over come adversity, they do something amazing, they "wow" the admissions officers. Don't think that you can write a Pultizer Prize winning essay (if you can write one out of high school, you would probably have a shot anywhere, but I doubt many people can), have a 3.0, 1900 SATs, and be from suburban America with absolutely nothing spectacular about you and get in. They need a reason, they don't just pick random people and say, "They seem nice."

If you have exceptional circumstances, weak test scores, you have as good a chance as anyone.

i know that SAT scores aren't everything but i doubt that someone in the 1800-2000 range could make it..unless they're rich. its a fact. i know my friend's friend got into Princeton with an 18-something and BAD gpa, and of course, the green bills.

Remember what SAT scores are used for: to test the caliber of your overall education. Thus, high scores indicate that you weren't getting "A"s for no reason, which is positive as far as admissions are concerned.

Still, colleges do know that some people are just bad test takers and such, and they will occasion admit people with lower scores (usually provided that there's an overwhelming reason to admit said person).

It's not impossible to get in with lower scores, but it doesn't help.

i scored in the 1900s and go to Penn...I'm Cherokee though so that was good enough I guess

hm how about immigrants that come to this country at the age 13?I have a friend immigrant from Ukraine. He came here at 13 years old right now he is 16 well soon will be 17.He scored around 1980.Will the fact that he is an immigrant and didnt know(until his sophmore year)about SAT help or increase his chances? Will college "give him a break" on the admissions criteria? He wants to go to any ivy league plus some high-non ivy league schools(MIT,Boston univ,NYU,Berkley etc)

PS-plus he is a minority. His parents together make around 10k-20k a year:(Will all that i just said help him or only worsen his positions.

^I personally think that the colleges will give a consideration if there's been any hardships or extenuating circumstances(like in the case of your friend). I believe that Harvard explicitly said that when they choose applicants, they look for those who have overcome adversity, not just academically but in other ways as well.

Also, a 1980 is NOT a bad score. Your friend should be able to get into BU no problem. I would check in with each school just in case but as far as I know (I'm a Bostonian), that is a very good sat score for many of the colleges here in Boston.

lol une ty for your answer so far this is the most helpful one.I will tell him the exact words that you typed. And yes i agree with you that for a person who came into this country and knew no english 1980 and A- average(plus some honors classes)is not half bad.Maybe anybody else would give some kind of advice for my friend?I would apreciate that:)

I have a friend who got into Princeton with a 17-1900. But he's an athlete, so it wasn't completely surprising.
