People to people

Anyone heard of this? It's full name is People to people student ambassador program. They sent a letter saying they are looking for students in my area and we could go to France, Italy, and Greece. I have to attend some meeting but before I even think about it I have some questions.

Is it a scam?
How much does it cost?
Has anyone ever participated in it? Tell me about it lol
And any other information would be cool.

not prestigious

Its a couple thousand. It's not prestigious. My friend went last summer, got a company to sponsor him and all...said it would of probably been cheaper and more fun in he just did it on his own

I'm probably doing it next summer. I ordered information about it today. I want to do the France, Italy, and Greece one as well. It looks pretty cool. I think it's called European Odyssey.

It's a load of crap.

If you want to be adventurous do apply for the Rotary Youth Exchange scholarship to live in another country for a year. My exchange was incredible!

P2P is the equivalent of taking a bunch of High School Students (immature ones from what I hear) and dropping the drama in the middle of Europe or wherever you go.

I discourage it.

It's not a scam, but isn't that prestigeous, and costs a whole bunch of money.

Yeah, agreed with shravas, though my friend who's on her [thinking] third year in the program enjoys it enough to keep coming back at least, she's actually in China right now, last year she did Spain, and the year before that she was in Great Britain, so it isn't cheap though it's a pretty good way of globe trotting.

i have no idea

Yea it sounds fun. I dont really care if its prestigeous though.

I just sent an email to People to People and my friend nominated me...

Where do you live in Michigan, if you don't mind me asking?

Oakland county you?

Yeah I get those things in the mail every year. A friend of mine went and had a good time. It's not really a scam but obviously it's not inexpensive, plus it's not impressive because basically anyone can go. If it's not a financial strain or anything I wouldn't discourage it, as long as you know it's not prestigious/impressive

I went in junior high. What a freaking rip off. It was very fun, but that's all it really is -- a vacation w/ friends. But I can't believe I spent 3000 on that crap :( Now that I think about it, I could have put the money to much better use.

I have a friend who had done it 4 times- she's loved it every single time and met some great people and loves traveling. But it is expensive and you could probably find a similar, cheaper program with more immersion. My friend said a lot of it was tourist crap with a bunch of kids her age. But I have another friend who stayed with a host family in Germany for a month to improve her self-study of German, and she said it was a great experience.

It isn't really immersion. It's traveling. I met a few of them down in South America and they were an interesting bunch.

Message me if you want to know about them...ahah.
