People who have been to FTE Economics for Leaders

To those who have done the EFL program, what's it like? I mean is there a lot of free time to chill, especially at night, or do you have 2 be
On bed by curfew? Are the counselors pretty strictnor chill? Like I want a laid back program where you learn alot, but I also want to hang out at night in the dorm halls or whatever.

Thanks a lot guys

I attended FTE/EFL at the College of Wooster last week. It really was the best experience of my life! The program is so much fun and you meet some really incredible students and teachers. Each program site is different, but I found that for the most part it was a laid back program. In the morning you attend class and then in the afternoon you have about three hours of leadership activities before a few hours of free time leading up to dinner. After dinner it is either more leadership or economics stuff but you also have at least 1.5 hours of free time. The dorms at Wooster are “suite style” and so we basically just had to be in our rooms when the Program Coordinators came for bed checks and then we were free to do whatever in our suite. So you can stay up if you want to, however the program is really tiring and sleep helps! As the week goes on and your group has good behavior and pays attention in class the program coordinators might offer you an extended curfew. By the last night the PC’s didn’t even do bed checks and we were allowed to hang out in the common lounge for the entire night/morning. Seriously, EFL is an amazing opportunity! Really get all that you can out of the program because it is so worth it!

bump…any recent alumni have any experiences at EFL they’d like to share? thanks!

I just got back from this program. I attended EFL at the University of Colorado at Boulder. It was great! However, each program is slightly different because the economics professor, the leadership coordinator, and the program coordinators (counselors) are different for every program. EFL is a good way to make connections with people because you become so close with the fellow students by the end of the week. Also, I know that some people in the past have gotten jobs or internships with my program’s leadership coordinator.

They won’t tell you this until after you attend the program, but a year after you attend (during the summer) they host a reunion at a college and they invite the students from a couple of the programs. Also, three years after you attend you are able to apply to be a program coordinator.

EFL is a good summer program, even if you aren’t into economics or know nothing about it. I think only a few people at my program actually came for the economics.

For future reference, this program is the best that you’ll ever attend. It’s really life-changing, to say the least
