People with a lot of AP

I don't think you need to have a high-paying job and an education that takes half of your life to attain to be happy. I can do homework or something completely menial and boring and horrible for hours and still be happy .

I don't understand how people can take 8 AP or so in 1 year.
I'm already challenging my Junior year with 5 AP and an HP...

AP Calc BC
AP English
AP Physics B
AP US History
AP Statistics
HP French

seems like a load of work for me.
Im wondering if people who take so, do they have a life? Or its just me that think its like a lot of work to devote to.
Are such people in any sport teams O___o?
I have to balance 3 different sports and 5 Teams- some allyear round and some seasonal - with the schoolwork.
But, i just dont understand whats the point of taking mass AP classes?

To some people it is just the best way to get into the best college…in my opinion it’s not, but hey, it at least gives you a broad knowledge for something like jeapardy. Some people are just paranoid/believe in it.

uhh yes you can take those many aps and be completely happy. many people take aps because they want something challenging and they’re interested in expanding their knowledge.

I agree with wheatbread. I take multiple APs because it further broadens my knowledge on that subject. Normal classes simply do not focus on specifics. Many AP concepts are applicable in daily life, such as concepts in Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Enviro Sci, Foreign Languages, English, History, and even Math! Taking AP courses have made me view the world differently because now, I have a broader understanding of the world. To me, AP science courses help me understand how the natural world is connected and how it functions. AP foreign languages broaden my cultural knowledge, and widen my view of the world and people living in it. Same concept is applicable in the History, Social Science (Gov, Econ, Psyc), and Music Theory courses. AP English courses improve my diction and make me sound more scholarly =p. I don’t see anything applicable in Calculus (even though it is my favorite subject!), but Stats is useful to me because I want to major in a business related field.

Plus, by taking many AP Courses, your range of majors in colleges will be more broad, because many majors at competitive colleges have prerequisites.

A little information about me… I play soccer year round, I’ll probably be the Varsity captain this year. I’m a board member for NHS and a senator in student government. I go out every weekend and come in at 2-3 am. I come home from school and sleep for a few hours every day then do all my homework at 11 or 12. I’m trying to plan a charity event. Yes, I have a life. It’s all about time management.

There’s a several reasons I’m taking 8 AP’s next year. I like a challenge, I wanna push myself and become more prepared for college. I wanna learn all I can. I LIKE having knowledge of various subjects. Honors/normal classes are ridiculously boring. If I can do something then I’m going to do it, I can’t settle for not doing my best or trying my hardest. I wanna be an AP Scholar after next year. And the cherry on top is that it looks good on a college app as opposed to taking OJTs like every other kid at my school. It’s not an urge to be a super-student and being able to look down on everyone else or anything (I’m not even my schools Val. I’m like 15 or something). I like AP classes, I think they’re easier than honors classes anyways; no BS busywork and they are fast paced. I like being around smart people.

But that’s just me :)

Plus I’m gonna make some money since students in my AP class this year are betting me I’ll drop 1 within the first month. Sweeeeeeet.

I agree completely with the above. The reason why I am taking 7/8 APs next year is simply to expand my knowledge of subjects and to challenge myself. I have realized how easy High School is and that it won’t successfully prepare me for college. In the meantime, I’m in the marching band, in all the theater productions at my school, NHS, and I’m a regular volunteer. I have a girlfriend of 3 years and lots of friends who I hang out with at least once a week. It’s all about time management as was already said. I enjoy learning new things and my APs help me achieve that end.

I agree with the people above. Taking ap classes help broaden my knowledge, and it is kind of fun to know a lot of things. Taking regular classes dissatisfies me, and it does not challenge me, whereas AP classes do. Sadly, however, my classmates in my AP classes this year are way over their heads taking the classes and they also cheat, especially in AP Chemistry. Besides, I somewhat expect my classmates of mine in my AP classes challenging each other in having the highest grade.

Just to clear up something I said earlier- I like learning new things, not in a manner similar to reading the encyclopedia
