Pepperdine Class of 2022 Regular Decision

Wondering same thing? Any considering studying abroad first semester then attending spring 19?

@txcountry We can make it work for my daughter. She was very excited to receive the scholarship and we are very proud. She really loves the school. However she received a very generous offer from LMU, so we are visiting that campus one more time. I think she still favors Pepperdine, but wants to keep her options open and be sure she has fully thought out her choice. (she will probably read my comments - so she can comment if I’m off base lol).

@Ovilla68 I was wondering the same thing as well. I think if my FAFSA stays the same then maybe, but if my parents AGI increases then perhaps I will get less.
@disney4cam That’s great! I feel the same way about keeping my options open. I applied to 7 private schools on the east coast and am hoping to get more financial aid from them. Even though I got a lot from Pepperdine, it would still be $9,000 out of pocket a year for my parents (a lot for us) and I just want to go wherever they will have to pay the least. I am VERY grateful for Pepperdine’s aid, but I don’t want my parents to have to take out loans and get into debt.

@txcountry You sound like a great kid. I think wherever you end up you will do very well. I hope it all works out for you.

@shoegal17 @tinytownmom I wasn’t also admitted for spring. I am extremely happy about this option and am almost certain I will be attending. Just waiting on a few more decisions but they are reached and I doubt I will be accepted. Anyway, I’m probably going to take classes at my local community college in the fall to keep up with our graduating class. I looked at my financial aide statement and after spring 2019 it listed me for summer 2019… does anyone know if I accept my spring offer- does that mean I need to study that summer as well? Even if I take community college classes to keep up with credits?
Any spring admits who want to talk or maybe make a groupme or Facebook page- we should!

Was also admitted**
Really need to proofread these before I post lol

Admitted as a transfer student with $73,040 awarded in scholarships and loans - award minus loans is $64,426!!! SO crazy!!! Just a small town girl from a little community college in Texas…can’t believe it! Stats were 4.0 UW, tons of EC’s and leadership/volunteer, and then as a transfer I didn’t need to submit SAT/ACT. I truly feel like the luckiest girl in the entire world, and I can’t wait to meet so many of you in MALIBU!!

@vdulemba1 I totally feel you! I’m from Collin County, tx- prosper, born and raised. Now I live in the LA area. I’m a transfer too. I can’t believe I got into my dream school. Mind if I message you to talk about transfer housing?

@txcountry please!! I am such a fish out of water now on how to proceed lol!!

Waitlisted here and trying to figure out my next steps. I haven’t received any other email. I am wondering what my chances are to get in. Any advice?

@and2018 The wait-list is pretty much a mean way to deny entry with a slim chance for admission in the late summer if you chose to stay on the list. In the high odd that you are not admitted past the wait-list, it leaves you having to apply for spring for any college, which is not really a good position to be in.

Honesty if I were you I would go for my second best school because lets be honest not every school is perfect.

I am still thinking whether or not I should go for the spring 2019 or just go to another school that I liked almost as much as pepperdine.

@vdulemba1 (I mentioned earlier I am a current Pepperdine freshman) As far as transfer housing, I can’t make any promises for next year’s plan, but every year in the past the rule is transfer students must spend their first year in on-campus housing, and the specific house for transfers is called Eden - it is nearly identical to the freshman houses with 8 people per suite sharing a bathroom with 2 of everything, but it is mixed gender and it is considered the “sustainability” and “green” house with alternate forms of energy etc. (it is also nicer inside!). Like I said I cannot be positive about next year but that has always been the situation in the past, and I am pretty sure you can still pick your roommate.

@shoegal17 Semester abroad is an interesting thought!

@fayellen thanks for the information. that’s really helpful. I didnt know transfers were required to live on campus- thanks!

@fayellen Pepperdine is my daughter’s dream school, so she was really excited to be accepted. I’m a little worried about her being so far away from home. We live in Dallas and don’t have any friends or relatives in the SoCal area. She also won’t have a car - at least the first year. My son is at Baylor, and they have an office on campus called “The Baylor Parents Network” whose job is to help parents connect to the university or to step in for parents in case of an emergency. Does Pepperdine have anything like this? Also, is there enough room for students to live on campus all four years if they desire? Thanks!

@Ovilla68 Here’s a link to pertinent housing information:

https://community.pepperdine.edu/housing/seaver/living-areas/

@Ovilla68 Yes! here is a link to that information, including emergencies and how they keep parents involved, etc. https://seaver.pepperdine.edu/parents/ Also they do have room all 4 years. You are required for 2 years to live on campus, usually a freshman dorms the first year and abroad in Pepperdine dorms in Europe etc. the second, although those who don’t go abroad live in the on-campus apartments and dorms Lovernich, Towers, and (NEW!) Seaside. The following 2 years you have those same 3 options, plus the graduate campuses, Drescher and School of Law, have a lot of room as well. There are free shuttles that loop the whole school every 15 minutes to get students to and from those spots. I also don’t have friends or relatives out here and I am from Michigan, I don’t have a car here either and I didn’t go home for thanksgiving or spring break, but I got to stay with other students and see their families (everyone is so welcoming) and you are even allowed to stay on campus over breaks.

@fayellen Thanks so much for the information! I have one more question if you don’t mind. My daughter is not entirely sure of her major, but she wants to do the pre-health curriculum. Are there any resources on campus to help students through difficult classes in addition to office hours with professors - a tutoring center, supplemental instruction, a writing center, help from grad students? Thanks so much for your time!

Hi @Ovilla68!! I was just accepted as a Pepperdine transfer and am born & raised in the flower mound/highland village suburb of Dallas, Texas!! I would love to connect with both you and your daughter as Pepperdine students are clearly a little hard to come by in Texas haha!! Are you attending the Dallas Malibu reception on April 8?

@txcountry Congratulations to you and your daughter! Can you give me any insight on pros/cons of Pepperdine vs LMU? We are in New England and haven’t yet visited either campus. My son is really hoping to go to one of these two schools for film. We just found out he was accepted for Spring 2019 at Pepperdine, but are still waiting with fingers crossed for word from LMU. We will be booking a trip out there to see the school (or hopefully schools) once we hear from LMU, but I’m curious about your (and your daughter’s) impressions as you are contemplating both options. Thank you!
