Percent Hispanics at Columbia

i was on collegeboard.com and comparing the percent hispanics at each but one of the ivy league schools (university of Pennsylvania), and found that the percent hispanics at columbia was more than double that of cornell; double that of harvard and princeton; almost double that of dartmouth; and almost 65% higher than yale's. does anyone know if this is because more hispanics apply to columbia or because columbia just accepts more hispanics for whatever reason. thank you! this really got me happy. for now at least.

(the stats are almost the same with blacks/non-hispanics)

^this could be for a variety of reasons:

1) heavier affirmative action at Columbia

2) more hispanics applying to Columbia in the first place because they see a greater proportion of their own race

3) more hispanics applying Columbia because Columbia is in New York and thus in a multi-cultural environment

4) more hispanics applying to Columbia because Columbia gets a higher proportion of applicants from new york city, and new york city is more hispanic than Boston, Connecticut or new york state.

yepp. first reason is columbia’s location in NYC.
Columbia’s known for being one of the most diverse Ivies… I wrote about that in the “why Columbia section” --the college brags for having more than 50% of the undergraduate student body self-identified as students of color.

I doubt that the whole affirmative action thing plays a big role in their ethnic makeup since the school still maintains pretty high standards. To answer your question… I think C draws a lot of its students from NYC which is largely hispanic/black in itself.

columbia is also a popular reach for students in south america…

I know that first-handedly

at Columbia or Colombia?

Columbia. It’s probably a reach because it’s in NYC.
