Percent of Sophomores who live on vs off campus at university park?

I'm trying to figure out which would be better to do: live on or off campus.
thoughts?

I can tell you from my experience living on campus sophomore year, but it kept me closer to everything academically. Given that I lived in West Halls, I was specifically close to the Library, and had decent food available in Waring Commons. However, most of my close friends had moved out and were living on east college ave. Socially, it was a hike to do anything with them, so I hung out more with freshmen and the few sophomores that were also in my situation.

I will say however, that I had guaranteed housing available all four years (student athlete) so that made my decision easier. Finding a housing contact can be a pain, and sometimes leaves you scrambling to find an apartment anyway if you don’t get a housing contract.

If you do decide to stay on campus sophomore year, I would recommend West Halls, North Halls, or Eastview Terrace. There are typically more upperclassmen in these areas, or at least few freshmen that other places.

Also, if you can get in, Nittany Apartments offer on campus housing with apartment style living. Meal contracts are optional.

My son tried to get into Nittany Apartments as a junior with no luck. :(

conventional wisdom is that Nittany Apartments are for international grad students, and scholarship athletes (most of the football/basketball teams live there).

I have also heard that about Nittany Apartments, at least regarding athletes. Reminds of the stupid bow and arrow incident a few years back.
