Everyone majoring in biology is pre-med...

anyone know???

Obviously its impossible to tell

I think between 8-12% of freshmen declare themselves as pre-med, but the attrition rate is severe.

^ it will seem like more, but that sounds about right. And yes, after the first year, you'll be surprised by the number of people who realize how many more things there are to do in life besides medicine and law (and that they would rather do something else)

which courses are weeder courses for pre-med that i should be aware of?

Well,

I think the consensus is --

Life Sciences courses especially and also chemistry (yadada o-chem).

You see essentially every so.campus course is on a curve....

Agreed with flopsy and Icarus.

In addition, before the first quarter, there are some people who declare themselves as doing Pre-Med with two minors, triple majoring ex. ( Business-Economics, Applied Math, and Political Science), or some kind of extreme case.

After a quarter, they see that it is ridiculously unattainable.

There are also people who switch majors (of opposite polarity) after a year, which means most of $24000 has gone to waste.

ah you mean people who go through an intensive lower-div yadada ? yeah... only 4 science GEs for CL&S kid

lololol ok gosh...

Or even worse, people who don't get into their majors due to a GPA issue.
ex. Pre Business-Economics

That would be like a waste of 1.5-2 years!!! $36000 = car! Possibly downpayment for casa!

We have the Economics major with Accounting combo. thing and then the possibility of biz management minor.

uhh aiming for double major biz econ adn math/applied science in 3 years...

are you serious fastmed?!? that sounds awesome, tell me how that goes, cause i'm interested in something like that as well, but dunno if it's realistic or not..espeically in 3 years..

WHAT POSSIBILITY OF BIZ MANAGEMENT MINOR?!?!?!?!?!

well... i drew out the plans for it already... i just have to take 4 classes each quarter until the end of my third year...with one of the quarters have 5 classes. lol.

well, i also finished some of the ges prior to ucla and some of th prereqs.

everyone I have talked to so far in my LS2 class is pre-med, it is rather annoying.

Both my roomies are premed ***gay

waaaaay too many premeds....

fastMEd - I can't imagine taking four serious classes a semester. Taking just 3 was a mental mess, but 4 or 5, wow. Props if you follow through tho :)

i don't like premeds. in general they are overly competitive and vicious.
