Wow, that attendance record is amazing. I remember getting awards for that in elementary school, but that was before I started taking sick days off.

My son is a HS jr and has only missed 1 day in kindergarten. I think it's a pretty good feat. He did get a $25 walmart card from the school after 4th grade and a $100 card after this year, so in essence, that's a scholarship. He went to school with a cold, but the only times he's ever been "sick" is on weekends or Christmas vacation or something. He got really sick overnight this winter and knew he wasn't going to make it to school and lo and behold they called a snow day! lol When the anthrax letters scare was going around his classmates teased him that if he got an anthrax letter, he wouldn't die. He said, "Oh I'd die, it just wouldn't happen on a school day.
I think being at school every day is something to be proud of. You're taking care of yourself and you're not skipping to go to the mall or something. Shows work ethic, in my opinion.

PiMom, I guess that is a good way to look at it....my son got $100 this year and $50 at the end of the other three years...so in a way, that is a scholarship!

If you're really looking for a scholarship to reward perfect attendance (and other scholarships for that matter), you should try word-specific google searches. The most likely place where you can find one is locally. Try searching for "perfect attendance scholarships [your city and state]." Filter through the results until you find something solid. You may be surprised at what you find.

good job with the perfect attendance. i gave that up in 11th grade. although i did hear about perfect attendance scholarship. it's not very prominent, but i can tell you that it exists. but i don't know if that was just a local thing or not. i would suggest, like others, to search on google or somethign and ask your counselor.

I just don't understand why anyone would want to have perfect attendence. Maybe I'm unusal, but I really hate school a lot. I'm hardly ever sick, but I looked for any excuse to skip, and I still made all A's. Graduation was the happiest day of my life. Can't wait until college.

eh kind of an unfair scholarship. sometimes i stayed home for the benefit of others students lol some sicknesses arent fun to have

Other than an occasional mild cold, my son never went to school sick. He just wasn't sick. So he wasn't passing anything around.
ChandraMoon, I hope you find a job you love and are passionate about, cause I sure wouldn't want to hire you. Sometimes you have to do what's expected because it's the right thing to do, whether it's boring or not. Good luck in the job force if you ditch work every time you can come up with an excuse.

ChandraMoon - I wouldn't want to hire you if you make it out of college and by the way why are you going to college if you hate school so much. My daughter loved school and still does. She never wanted to miss a day even when she had mono - which she did not spread to anyone. Someone would have to drink after her or kiss her, then they still might not get it. She had a doctors excuse to be out a full week and she said I will not need it.

I never said I hate learning--I hate school. School is not a constant 7 hours of learning and insight. It is a couple hours of learning stuck inside many hours of talking, reviewing, sititing, wasting time. I don't care how good a school you go to--most of the day is spent doing busy work. My teachers love me, because even though I'm not a weird suck up who sits in class all day for no reason, I am smart.

I'm going to the University of Florida. And you bet I'm going to miss work any chance I get. Granted, I'm not going to tell my employer that at the interview. But if my work is done well and on time, who cares if I spend the day stuck in a desk playing mindsweeper?

Hrm...there's scholarships for tall and short people...

Please and thank you!

I am currently a freshman in College at the University of Washington Seattle. I think that having an achievement like this, K-12, should be rewarded. I am proud to say I did this and was featured in The Tacoma News Tribune last year as a reward. I have looked for scholorships but none seem to apply. High Schools on the East Coast have actually been featured on the news because they are trying to keep kids from skipping by giving them money at the end of there senior year for not missing school. The most I heard of was around $5000 but living on the West Coast it doesnt really apply.

For those people who say that it is not a significant achievement they should have gone to my high school where people consistantly would skip class right before tests or so they would not have to turn in a project. They were given extensions because they didnt properly manage their time. This is also a life lesson because I work at a Walgreens and have since I was 16 and seen many people fired because they consistantly called in sick or lazy to work. In real life you dont get extensions you are there to work.

Not to mention it does help test your immune system. I have had many immunizations, the chicken pox vaccine, flu shots since I was 8, and it was nice not being sick and being able to always go places on the weekend while other kids were ill with the flu or colds. I slept 8 hours a night as often as I could, took vitamins, ate healthy food but I was still a high school student so it forced me to limit the bad habits that I did have.

For anyone that can also say they have this achievement to their name I understand the sacrifices but when you graduate it is a great feeling knowning you were there for all the memories unlike those who skipped out on them.

I've missed one day since February 16th, 2005 in my eighth grade year! Now being a junior and requesting information from several colleges and get nothing i feel kind of like i've let myself down! that coming to school sick and after a relative died was just a waste of my time!

Even if there are no scholarships, it still looks great if you are trying for a job while attending college.

I am totally against rewarding for perfect attendance. I totally agree with Bluebayou. We abolished this "award" in our school system thank goodness.

One of those kids whose parent(s) sent them to school sick, essentially infecting every other kid in the class. :)

Well, I work at a high school with students that are at risk. Many of them are at risk of failing due to missing so much school. Most of the absences are not due to illness, just skipping. My son never went to school sick...he just never got sick during his four years of high school. During freshman orientation at college they stressed over and over again that if you want to do well in your classes then you must go to class. I agree that if someone is sick, they should stay home so that others are not infected. However, if they are not sick and they come to school every day....I believe that should be rewarded. The students that take school seriously are most likely the employees that every boss would want. Congratulations to all those students out there that are doing their best!!!

Yeah, the people I know who have perfect attendance have come to school very sick before. I don't agree with those priorities... I mean, skipping school constantly for no reason is not good, but skipping occasionally for health reasons (prevents putting others at risk, and also helps one get better much more quickly), or because every once in a while there are just better things to do than go to school (for example, I was absent for a few days in tenth+eleventh grade because I presented at research conferences) is probably better than making it to school every single day. But congrats to those who have done it... Pretty crazy.

you've never been so sick in your 12 years that you had to take a break from school?? that's really amazing! Almost every winter I take one or two days off at the height of my cold cuz I don't want to infect the rest of the school.
