Performance groups?

does amherst have any performance groups, such as orchestras, bands, choirs, a cappella, etc?

Amherst is famous for its a capella groups. Google "the singing college"

Some of these pages are out of date and the a acapella groups aren't included (they're entirely student run), but you get the idea:

hm..I don't really see where a clarinet would fit :/

Orchestra would be your best bet.

Did you say, "Clarinet"?

I just read here how someone started their own group for a fusion of African drums and Klezmer music:

Amherst Bulletin | African drums meet klezmer clarinet

My son co-majored in Music. The orchestra is beautiful to hear. He belonged 4 years to Concert Choir and had the chance to travel with the choir to sing in Japan and Hungary (two different years) thanks to a wonderful director named "Mallorie." These and other offerings are on post #3 link above.

One year he wrote a musical drama for his senior thesis and the Music Department assigned a pit band to accompany the staged theatrical reading. There were 3 instruments. You might phone up the department and ask a professor if there are other similar small-group opportunities that come up for instrumentalists, from time to time, along with the regularly scheduled orchestras and concerts.

The a-capella groups are a lot of fun and extremely popular on campus.
