Perfume - do you still wear it (ladies > 50)?

I’m curious because I don’t go out as much as I used to but where are places that scents are actively discouraged?

Around here…schools, doctors offices, some businesses, some restaurants. Scents asked not to be used.

I love Vick’s! Sometimes I dab it under my nose before going to bed even when I’m not sick. It opens my nostrils and somehow helps me sleep better. I find it soothing. I’m probably remembering Dr. Mom slathering it on my chest and covering it with a hankie bandana when I was little and had a bad cold or flu.

My wife is another long time Guerlain fan, but for her it’s Vol de Nuit. Only thing she will wear.

I hardly ever smell perfume anymore when I’m out in public and that makes me happy.

Bath and Body works makes a eucalyptus soap and lotion I use in my powder room. I actually like that, but it really doesn’t smell in the room. I can also use their vanilla soap.

I used to wear perfume daily, but developed itching on my wrists and neck in the last 10 years. Allergy tests confirmed that I am allergic to some fragrances. One time I had to leave a meeting because I couldn’t stop coughing. Someone’s scent was causing it.

Haven’t worn any since college. I am sensitive to smells.

Speaking of smells… I got my car’s oil changed a few weeks ago. Afterwards I thought I was going crazy because I’d always smell air freshener. Got H in the car, he smelt it too. Looked at my receipt and they put in some scented air freshener without asking me. Fortunately, it’s not our out of town car so I’m not in it for more than 15 min at a time or I would get headaches. But it would have caused H’s coworker to go into anaphylactic shock. She can’t be around any scents at all.

Wow @classicmom98! That would be a huge problem for me and my family! So unthinking of them to put the scent in your vehicle. It would likely trigger our entire family. We can’t handle such scents and they’re so hard to get rid of!

I suspect they bought they were being “thoughtful” in giving you this “extra,” not realizing that for some of us, it’s a huge problem and NOT a bonus!

Im so glad I’ve never had a mechanic that added scent to our vehicles.

Did anybody wear Love’s Baby Soft cologne as a teen. I think there was a lemon scent of it that I liked.

Yup. Love’s Baby Soft and my fave, Anais Anais! I wear Tocca Florence, not every day - more for special occasions. I love it. It’s not an oil but it is less aerosol-y than some perfumes. I also have an old bottle of Joy that I like. Sadly-not too many special occasions/reasons to dress up the last two years.

Lol, yes Love’s Fresh Lemon, I know I got at least one gift set of that as a teen :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

I don’t wear fragrance out too often, but will put Nest Citrine on my pillow at night and sometimes wear it out in summer. I used to like Arpege by Lanvin in my 20’s when I worked in an office and was hoping to be taken seriously :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

We’re unscented down to the hairspray. I haven’t owned perfume in over 35 years. Sadly perfume, body, lotions, etc scents in confined spaces can send me urgent care. The struggle is real. I wish I could enjoy perfume; I was always drawn to more spice type fragrances, definitely nothing flowery. I would love a scent that smells like hot apple cider :joy:

No and I don’t wear make up either. My grandmother on my dad’s side tried to get me interested in both, but it didn’t take for long - too much time and I didn’t like the way it made my body feel. I don’t care how others think I look. If that’s how they’re going to decide they like me it’s probably best if we’re in different circles.

Our laundry detergent and soaps are also unscented. I despise the scents in most of those. H will break out in Hives from some of them.

I’m surprised to read so many allergic or having reactions to scents. I get it fully, but I’m just surprised at the numbers.

I have an aversion to Febreeze and those hard (not liquid) air fresheners. H has one in his car and likes to put them in storage closets and he can’t seem to get it through his head that they literally make me gag!

There are very few perfumes I can wear without experiencing nausea, full sinuses and headache. I can usually be around people wearing perfume without too much of an issue and there are a even a few that I think smell fantastic on others that I cannot tolerate wearing myself (Jo Malone nectarine blossom and honey, for example).

Lately I have been wearing this one: https://houseofhappyboutique.com/collections/body-care/products/mermaid-rollerball-perfume

Hate perfume. Hate Bath & Bodyworks too. Just walking past that place in the mall gives me the beginning of a headache. It’s the fake scents that trigger me. I can go in Lush w/o a problem. Can’t stand being trapped in small spaces like an elevator or car with someone who is wearing perfume.

I will get sinus headaches from fake scents and perfumes but I like real citrus smells. We use naturally scented laundry detergent (usually Ecos brand). My youngest broke out in hives from some Tide we inherited once. No dryer sheets or fabric softener.

I know a lot of people who get headaches or migraines from being around fake scents.

I get an intense headache if my husband uses polyurethane, even in the basement. I walk in our front door and know immediately if he’s using it.

I know someone else who goes into anaphylactic shock with scents.

Funny that people are mentioning Vick’s Vaporub. I ctually use that to mask unpleasant smells and have left an unopened jar near my face, or put a little on my nostrils, as others have said!

Long ago loved Estee Lauder White Linen. Used to wear men’s Royal Copenhagen too. In college years also loved Diorissimo.

Now , I usually wear a scent called Inis - from Ireland. To me it’s a light, clean scent. Have received many compliments when wearing it.
