I almost never wear perfume - it doesn’t bother me but I can take it or leave it, so why not protect others? Back on the day I guess Chloe was my signature scent. At least I not only have a very old bottle of perfume, but scented body cream and powder too. My favorite old perfume, though, was a little bottle from Hawaii.
Nowadays my favorite scent is lemon.
Husband allegedly has a fragrance allergy and we buy unscented Dove hand soap and Tide laundry detergent. But he occasionally dashed on some cologne when we used to go out - with no reaction. Go figure.
I don’t wear perfume very often anymore, when I do I wear Jo Malone, usually one of the citrus ones. I wore Love’s Baby soft as a teenager, then Oscar de la Renta for years and then Eau de Calandre before Jo Malone.
I’m sensitive to scented products such as lotions and laundry detergent but perfume is fine.
I also try to avoid anything scented in the summer because I don’t want to attract flying insects! @Tigerwife92 where do you get unscented hairspray? I have tried to find unscented hair products to try to minimize attracting yellow jackets and such but no success.
What do people who are really allergic to scents do about hair products? @thermom My Mom has exclusively worn Arpege for as long as I can remember and my D told me recently she wants a bottle of it when my Mom passes away to remember her by.
I took several of Mom’s blouses after she passed in July and one of them smells faintly of her perfume. That’s the one time I don’t mind smelling a scent.
I am sensitive to scents, but not allergic, so not exactly the target audience for your question, but I prefer natural and organic products. I use Giovanni shampoo and that works well for me. Don’t use hairspray. Some shampoos are too strong for me and sometimes my young adult kids use something in the bathroom that is a little too strong, too, and kind of bothers me. I usually just try to stay out of the way and make sure the bathroom fan is on for awhile when they are done. It’s usually the fake scents/chemicals that bother me, but sometimes something like incense can do it too. I once got a raging and immediate sinus headache back in the 80s when I was in line for a REM concert right behind someone who was smoking a clove cigarette. Yikes! No thanks.
I wore Poison back in the 90’s. Now just use a light body spray that makes me feel a bit fresh before going anywhere. The scent doesn’t last but I still like the ritual of spraying before I go somewhere.
This thread made me remember I used to wear a particular scent when I was much younger (only on special occasions I think). It took me a few minutes to find it, but it was Ysatis, by Givenchy. It looks like they don’t make it any longer.
I did for years, until I met H and he’s ‘allergic’. My faves were Opium and Rive Gauche.
A few years ago, I was in France with my S and strolled into the Fragonard store to buy gifts for my D. While browsing, I fell in love with the Marche Aux Fleurs range of fragrances. I decided for $20, it was worth risking my life!
As it happens, H is not allergic (or he doesn’t notice!) and I come up smelling like roses - every day!
There are some perfumes and scents that make me gag or grab an Advil. Then there are scents that smell very pleasant. Rose is one of them. Like Le Labo rose-scented shampoos etc. Also liked Burberry Body until it got reformulated. Gucci Flora scent smelled like dirty socks after a few minutes on my skin!
I can’t stand anything with vanilla or baby powder or roses. I always like to spray something interesting- like some saffron scented perfume from Jo Malone to try, and not 2 minutes later, my skins only pulls in the vanilla or the powder.
Ds took me into the Fragonard store in Paris and I was so impressed with their scents. But only bought a few samples for others. I just found a few never opened samples.
Allergies as well as working in health care have kept me from wearing perfume for most of my life, but I adore a good perfume on others. In my environment it is rare to find. Years ago someone gave me Obsession, which I adored but it didn’t work with the allergies.
Someone gave me a Fragonard soap as a gift. I don’t recall the name of the scent, but I was crushed when it was gone. I’d been sprinting to the shower up to that point!
of course we all have a certain taste in perfume duhh!! but my favs would be my victoria secret cucumber & green tea and pink sugar (smells like cotton candy)!!
No, I threw them all away. But I do keep a bottle of French Lavender oil in my purse just in case. A small bottle I bought in a lavender shop in Provence.
