My school is providing a personal statement workshop for seniors, however I am pretty set on a CSU such as Long Beach or Fullerton due to financial cost and proximity to home. State colleges, to my knowledge, do not take into consideration personal statements or essays, only the application and transcripts. Should I write up an essay anyway? Nearly all seniors at my school are desiring a UC or anything not a state college, and the personal statement means everything to them, so I'm kind of like the nonconformist of the class.</p>
<p>If the colleges you’re applying to don’t accept them, then there’s no reason to write one . . . and you can enjoy being the renegade! :)</p>
<p>But, if you think the workshop might be helpful (for future grad school or job applications), you might want to show up anyway . . . but that’s up to you.</p>
<p>Well, UCs are state colleges… but it is true that CSUs other than CPSLO and CMA just use a formula of GPA and test scores to rank students applying to the campus and major, so there is no need to do anything else to apply to them (though choosing your senior year courses to prepare for college courses in your major and doing well in them is obviously a good idea).</p>
<p>Check the net price calculators on the CSUs and UCs in your area to get a good idea of what they will cost after financial aid. If there is any chance you may add a UC or private school to your application list, you may want to go to that workshop anyway.</p>
