personal statement

i have been reading several websites about what makes a good law school essay, but found most of them to be conflicting.

i wrote a very basic preliminary rough draft of my personal statement, and the words "law," "law school," and "lawyer" do not even come up. it is just an essay about my unique background. with a limt of 2 pages, i didnt really have room to go into how this ties into law shchool. is this ok?

i know you shouldnt say "i want to be a lawyer because....." and i know that it is supposed to be pretty open ended, but does it have to even be remotely related to why you want to go to law school? the websites i've been visiting have some conflicting answers on this and i was just wondering if someone here knows.

I don't think law school admissions officers really require your personal statement to tie into the law. In fact, if I were them, I'd probably be bored to tears by most such essays. My own essay had absolutely nothing to do with law. It was a statement about my own personal growth (not that that's not cliche, but anyway) through my decision to start working out seriously during the summer between high school and college. It didn't seem to hurt me any.

Unless the essay prompt specifically asks "why law," most law schools are pretty flexible when it comes to the content of the PS.
