I just received a handwritten thank you note from my interviewer at Bowdoin. She said, in essence, that she enjoyed our talk and that I should feel free to contact her with any questions I might have about Bowdoin.

Is this common? How big of a deal is this? I had sent her a handwritten thank you card right after the interview, so that may have played a factor.

Our experience with interviews at many LACs is that my sons generally received a thank you note–either email or handwritten–from the interviewer. It’s part of their job to send one.

The important question is…did you send a thank you to your interviewer?

Yes, I made sure my D contacted all her interviewers by e-mail to thank them. She received cards from Bowdoin and WashU interviewers about a week after her interviews. Nothing from Pomona, but that interview hadn’t gone well either, maybe it’s a sign!

Our daughter received a personalized note from many folks. It means NOTHING in terms of the admissions process. It is simply a polite thank you for having interviewed.

My son received thank you notes from all who interviewed him. In one note the interviewer wrote that she hoped the college makes the right choice and admits him. It was nice knowing, that at the very least, that her opinion about him would be positive. The college is also one that takes having an interview very seriously. If you don’t interview your chances of being admitted at very slim.
