Hi everyone!
So it’s coming down to the wire to make my college decision, 23 days actually. UConn is one of my top schools, but I’m nervous about how well I’ll do there with my severe allergies and asthma. I’m actually just visited the campus, and it being spring, of course my allergies acted up. If any one that goes/went to UConn that has bad allergies etc, how did you adapt to it? Was it seasonal or was it near long? Are there any ways to get allergy shots on/near campus?
I know this is a weird topic, but it’s the one thing holding me from pressing that “I accept your offer” button.
Thanks!
@ajnovo13 Hi, I can’t exactly say how the allergies seasons are at UCONN but I do live in the northeast. Depending on what type of allergies you have it can go either way. I do know most schools and specifically UCONN offers A/C for those students with severe allergies to help alleviate symptoms. We just visited and someone asked that exact question. If your allergies are just in the spring you may be able to swing it. College gets out 2nd week in May. It may not be easy but if you love UCONN it may be worth it. Good luck with your decision!
PS call the school or the infirmary at UCONN and inquire about the availability of allergy shots. I’m sure they can help and you would not be the first to ask!
@ajnovo13 My daughter is finishing her second year at UConn. She is an allergy sufferer. Her allergies are no worse at school than they were at home in NJ, just generally delayed about a week or two in the Spring, as everything tends to bloom a little later up there. Her particular allergies are worse in the Spring and Fall. Actually her Fall allergies are better at UConn, while her Spring allergies are about the same in intensity as in NJ. She has had an AC unit in her room last year and this year. The Office Of Students with Disablilies was easy to work with and very accommodating. She has been getting allergy shots on campus since she started. The 2 nurses that administer them are terrific. The days/hours are slightly limited(only 3 days a week), but there is also a clinic right in downtown Storrs, across from the CVS where students can go for allergy shots with better hours.
