Petroleum Engineering: LSU or WVU

Hi, I am a Virginia resident and qualify to get in-state tuition to either Louisiana State University (LSU) or West Virginia University (WVU). I was planning on going to LSU in the Fall (2012), but just recently found out it might take three years to graduate versus the two I thought because of two prerequisite classes. LSU adviser said he cannot get me into the class I need. So, now I am considering going to WVU.

I am in my mid 30's and already have a Bachelor's Degree of Science with minor in Biology and Chemistry. I just got my Associates in Engineering.

Financial Aid: I have about 35K in student loans. About 15K left in financial aid = will not be able to support 3 years in school and room/board. I will probably work a few hours a week, but I want to focus on getting the best grades.

GPA: Low: combined is a 2.5 - mostly due to my first degree since I chose a field that requires lab work, and I hated labs and what I was studying and just wanted to graduate. My engineering grades are mostly A's and B's.

My question is: Considering my age, and that I want to get into the work force asap, the fact that I will not have enough loans from Financial Aid to support myself for 3 years with tuition and room and board ---- what school should I pick? Is it better to stay an extra year in LSU or finish faster and go to WVU?

LSU is ranked either 6 or 8 in top Petroleum schools. WVU is not ranked in top 10.

I am concerned with getting an internship and job after I graduate WVU. I feel like I have a better chance with LSU.

Can anyone who has any experience in Petroleum programs at LSU or WVU respond. I read general stuff online myself, but I am looking for more specific advise in regards to these two schools. Any recruiters response would be highly valued as well.

Thank you.
