Petroleum Engineering transfer /possible other field

Hi I really need advice on this decision. I am currently enrolled in a college were i have completed 2 years of college course work about 60 credits. my overall goal is to become a petroleum engineer. I live in massachusetts so my options at the moment are to transfer to a school here where i can study a different engineering path. such as civil chem or mechanical, to get a bachelors and then apply to a masters program. Or I can Apply to an out of state school and complete it there. I would prefer to stay here because i just came back from a different state. my question is If i were to go with the first option, What would be the best engineering path to go in to and be able to get in to a petroleum engineering career with a masters there after. What would my chances be with applying in to the oil industry and getting a job in different sector of this line of work. I really need to decide what my best options are for my engineering path.

Thanks

Mechanical or chemical

I’m interested in this too. Hope someone has info on this

Yes, mechanical or chemical would be the top two choices. Your focus would have to be in fluids.

If you want to work upstream, then go with Mechanical. Try to get some internships with exploration and production companies during your summers.

A few thoughts…

Check and see what oil companies recruit your school. It will be nearly impossible (unless you know someone) to get a meaningful internship without having the company come to your campus

At a minimum, take a sed/strat geology class, might also want to take a structural geology class

Petroleum Engineering graduate schools are extremely competitive to get into right now. I was recently at an event where Dr. Holley (Dean of UH Petroleum Dept.) said they accepted only 10% of their applications. Keep in mind that UH isn’t a top tier program either. I know Colorado School of Mines had an even lower percent.
