I am at a small state school where there I can choose to go on in Mechanical engineering which will take 2 years or take a degree path in chemical engineering which will take 3 years. I've already completed two years and have taken the intro stuff like statics, mechanics of materials, etc.
My goal was to get a job as a drilling or reservoir engineer I want to be apart of extracting the oil and I know they hire petroleum engineering students so would it be wise to transfer out of my school and go to a place like TAMU?
Or would it just be best to finish the degree where I am and try to get in the industry that way?
If I choose to stay which will be more beneficial for this line of work doing the mechanical or chemical degree?
I was thinking I may not be cut out for mechanical since I hated statics and materials and would rather not deal with that stuff again. Or is it just a small part of mechanical? I have heard that mechanical does lend itself better to drilling and reservoir side vs chemical.
I am also trying to get a class in geology and hydrology if that will help any? Would taking classes through distance learning for reservoir engineering introduction help to be on a resume?

Thanks.
