pets at college

does anyone have any pets in their dorm? does the pet get enough attention? what animals are you allowed to have (or did you sneak it in)? do you recommend having a pet? if you have a roommate, is he okay with it? is it a big hassle having a pet?

thanks

Imitate Lord Byron and get a pet bear. Take it on leashed walks around campus. I guarantee you will never have issues with your roommate if you have a bear:)

Most colleges don’t allow pets in the dorms. If you live off-campus, make sure you get a pet that can live with the amount of attention that you are willing to devote to it. Also keep in mind that college students travel a lot. If you leave campus for a weekend, is there someone who could take care of your pet while you are gone? What happens over break?

Pets weren’t allowed in my dorms, but I know a number of people who had cats anyway.

It depends on your roommate and RA.

The only pets that are allowed at the university I’m attending in the fall = fish. So what do you think, guys? Should I round up a few piranhas?

A few colleges allow pets:

My college allows pets in dorms as long as they can stay in a cage (so a bird, rodent, reptile, etc.).
