Petty Food Issues-- Anyone Else?

Hah hah. My school is quite small, and there's only one cafeteria (besides a cafe and a grill for sandwiches etc). So mostly during meals everyone is eating at the same time.

And I've noticed we all look at what each other is eating. A person can be walking toward a table and the random girls seated at other tables will stare at her plate as she passes. You can set down your plate to get a drink and catch someone looking at what's on your plate. It's sort of funny.

Until you feel that definitely, some people aren't looking at others' plates just out of curiousity to see what other people eat, but to see how much. Especially when they start making comments about food and how they feel like pigs and stuff while they eat their salads. Major creepy.

By the way, I got to an all girls' school.

Anyone else notice this?

I didn't notice this near as much during high school. Hopefully people will get over petty food issues as we really get into the semester. I love seeing girls getting lots of pizza and fried chicken and Cokes. I love that some girls don't give a crap and will eat what and how much they want, regardless of other people's opinions or curiousity.

That's weird...my friends and I just heap on as many cheese fries as we feel like and then go en masse to the ice cream machine.

doing, looking and thinking about you. I can say that this would be less likely to happen at a guys only school.....or with guys anywhere but you care way too much. Is this your first experience at a single sex program? Were you not advised of stuff like this? Hang in there and let their eyes ogle and tongues wag......you are the one eating from your plate not them.

Dude, I totally disagree. It was only an observation. I don't think I care too much. I think it's funny. Is observing certain things about the behavior of others caring too much, or just being able to observe? Sheesh.

Oh, and you do realize that some people are more sensitive than others, right? And it's not always a bad thing to care what people think sometimes.

Hey......it sounded to me as if you were caring and expressing that. IF you don't care and you want to have fun.....I can only imagine. Thanks for clarifying your reasoning. I could care less about what people think of my plates of food. I am already imagining some great scenarios tho......I should never have looked at this thread......gives me too many ideas.

I'm at a women's college too. And I think that because it's a women's college, we're all a lot less shy about eating whatever the hell we feel like. I've never noticed anyone looking at what I'm eating and I can't remember ever staring at anyone's plate unless what they had looked really good and I wanted to know where to find it.

Don't worry about what people think about what you're eating. Eat a healthy and balanced diet and be happy with yourself.

OP uses term "girls school" as opposed to "women's college" and there in lies a clue.......level of maturity and concern for group approval versus personal confidence. Just my thought and observation. It is early in the year and hopefully this girl can make an effort to become a woman.

Seriously, for someone who accuses others of "caring too much" you're so overanalyzing what I write that's its annoying.

"level of maturity and concern for group approval versus personal confidence....hopefully this girl can make an effort to become a woman."

So, do you analyze everyone like this? Do you like playing the psychologist? Has anyone ever told you its pompous and annoying?

"I should never have looked at this thread"

In this opinion you're actually correct.

I have to go and eat....again.

That's really, really weird o.0 In either case I wouldn't feel self-conscious about what I ate. I would think it was funny, too.

Maybe you are semi-imagining it. Like, maybe they just want to know if there were blueberry muffins that they missed. Or something.

People don't do this at my highschool, although I always check out my friends' lunches to see if there's anything I can beg for. Haha.

hmmmm...i go to an all boys high school, and naturally we love food. theres an all girl high school a few minutes away, and all of those girls eat soooo much. when we have workshops together for the club i run, i notice the girls eat alot, and i love that !
