PFT at the Summer Seminar

My understanding is that if you pass the PFT at the summer seminar, you don’t have to do it again for admissions. Here’s my question. Do you have to take it at the summer seminar? If you do and you fail, does it hurt your chances for admission the following year?

At summer seminar EVERYONE will take it but it does not count for your application. They never really made that clear last year. The results of that go to your element leader who may use them in their write up of you.

Last year my understanding is that at the West Point and Navy summer programs the CFA did count if you passed although you would have the opportunity to retake it later no mater what.

At USAFA's summer seminar, the CFA doesn’t' count. Considering USAFA's elevation, I know I'm really glad I got to take it back home.

The elevation was killer at USAFA. I was comming off of track season where the mile was my event, and I added nearly a minute onto my time running up there.

Well THAT can't be good for XC...especially when in college it's 5 miles instead of 3 (8k instead of 5k). I can't afford to add 5 minutes of time onto my race ;).

You'll just get so used to it that when anyone else comes to run against you you'll blow them away. And I'm going to guess that the elevation did more to me than it would to a recruited XC athlete.

PatriotCPM: During the orientation, I went running with two cadets. I had only been at altitude for 2 days. I'm a XC/distance runner....we ran for less than 30 minutes at a really easy pace over a few hills....its really amazing running out there...I was almost ready to puke even though I was already well into the track season....

Yeah, when I went on a Track/XC recruiting visit in Feb (I was there for like 3 days), we ran for 50 mins up along this ridge...the views were amazing, and it was just a really nice change from the landscapes of New York. I'm used to flatness, and maple trees and and Oaks and all those, but there it was all pines and mountains, and it was even like a desert type landscape in some parts (the high desert, I think they call it?). Anyways, even though we were going relatively easy, I could barely walk at the end. The hills were definitely the worst-we started on a flat, and I was thinking "Ah this altitude isn't too bad..." Then we reached the first hill and I powered up it, and I was instantly hit with extreme fatigue.

Do the cadets run in their own running shoes or in those that would be issued to them? They dont run in boots, I hope!!

At SS, you bring your own shoes. You won't be doing too much running, except for "doolie for a day." Even then, your shoes will not be a big concern...if they fit well.

As a cadet, they issue shoes and boots. During beast, I'm just going to run in whatever they tell me to run with, shoes or boots. (I am expecting both, at one time or another.)

Bring some tennis shoes/running shoes and you will be fine.

SS is no biggie...if you feel like it was tough, better get out and work harder when you get home. Just bring your running shoes and you'll do great.

BCT is another matter, but I'm just focusing on getting there for now. You'll do what they tell you when they get there. ;)
