Philadelphia Schools

Philadelphia is a great area for schools. I know a great website that can help you compare the schools, but because you cant post websites on this site (which by the way i think is SO STUPID), PM me and I'll send you the link.

Didn't you ever hear of Villanova's nickname "Vanillanova?" ;)

I second that Philly is a great place to spend your college years.

D will be applying soon to Temple for Fall '09. We've been to the outskirts of the campus (Liacourse center for a cheerleading championship) but didn't stroll around campus. We will visit for the open house in November.

Rankings: Nova, Temple, St Joes, Drexel, Lasalle.
Temple and St Joes are practically the same academically I think. Temple is a public school, so it makes more sense to go there. Lasalle is in a more ghetto area than Philly. I would say that Nova is too much better than Temple. Drexel is only good for the co-op.

Temple is almost done finishing a new business building, the business program is ranked nationally. Their communications/journalism are pretty well known in Philadelphia. Alot of the news people are from Temple. Temple also has a pretty good film/art program. So that's temple academically.

The campus is really diverse. Theres people from all over the U.S. and world. It's close to the train station and 2 subway stops. The subways like 10 minutes away from downtown. It's safe at night as long as you know where to not go, and traveling with someone else is always a plus.

Temple also has campuses all over the world, in Rome, Tokyo, Etc. This is a really plus because the same financial aids you receive in the U.S. applies to it too.

Does Temple have green space for studying outside or tossing a frisbee around?

I wouldn't say that any of those schools really have a bad reputation. I live less than 10 miles from philly and I can fill you in on the "street cred" of these schools. Villanova is probably the most respected out of the bunch but it does have a reputation as a haven for rich kids. It has a great business program, and the business majors tend to graduate with great job offers. However, keep in mind that it's not located in Philly but rather on the "Main Line," which is one of the wealthiest places in America.

Temple is the second most respected. It's a great bargain, has a nice urban vibe, and has solid academics. Its average SAT is about 1100, though, while Villanova's is about 1270.

Drexel is expensive and people from Penn will make fun of you a lot. LaSalle and St. Joe's have the problem of being both academically inferior to Temple and far more expensive than Temple.

villanova is the best of those.
temple also has good business programs. i see they appear in usnews ranking
st.joe's, I don't know much about it. can anyone gimme some information ? i'd like to go to PA too :D

The SAT average should rise another 100 points very soon.
