how frustrating! i’m DYING to know my dorm assignment.

Yeah well it should be coming soon!

I know it’s all very exciting, and I’d encourage you to get excited about whatever you get, and not get worried about what the nicest dorm or best cluster is. As a parent I got to know 3 ninth graders in 3 dorms, all different clusters, and they all liked where they were and where they lived. Now 2 of the 3 are changing to yet another cluster for 10th grade just because of the logistics of picking roomates, etc, but they are all happy about where they are going next. Wherever you are assigned, big or small cluster, single or double, you will find some friends and a nice situation if you have an open mind. To quote from Project Runway, “Make it work!”

The Andover Math Department no longer sells the TI-84+ calculators.

So which dorm is the best girls “junior/freshman” dorm and which cluster is best? (inyour opinon of course)

I don’t think you’re going to get many useful responses. There’s a lot of cluster and dorm pride and most people will say that theirs is the best. I’ll bet that you’ll grow to love your dorm and cluster no matter what you get, if that’s what you’re worried about.

You should have received the email now. I know many of you have been anxious about it…

Any advice on what kind of computer to get? I don’t mean what make or model, but should it be a laptop that is portable or is a widescreen laptop ok? What do most students use? Do you take computers to class to take notes, or can you leave it on your desktop? Thanks for any advice from current students.

My tour guide told me that most people have Macbooks. I’m also curious to know if laptops are used in class or not.

Your laptop doesn’t need to be portable. People don’t use them in class on a regular basis. They’re never required, and are only used for special cases like class presentations.

Tapper7, can you tell what part of campu the Rockwell dorm is at? Dorms don’t seem to be in the map. What building is Rockwell close to?

Rockwell is next to Isham and behind Bishop in West Quads North and South. Every room inside is a single, though they’re stifling hot right now (and probably September too). It’s across Main Street, which may be why you couldn’t find it. Look for tennis courts on the other side of route 28 - it’s right there.

Also, I used a widescreen portable laptop (not the easiest thing to carry around), but I also took advanced computer science classes where such a machine was convenient to have so I could work outside of the computer centers and under my own settings. Generally, laptops in non-computer science classes would not be a good idea (too many ways to lose focus) unless it’s for a presentation, as tapper7 mentioned.

Thank you, Uroogla. I found it. I got him a big and strong fan - hopefully that will help.

oops didnt see this thread before i posted my own. where is Bartlet North located and what buildings is it close to. o.o i cant seem to find the map of all the dorms

Barlet is in a great location. It’s right next to the library, the Great Lawn, and your classes. You can wake up 10 minutes before class and still make it on time. It’s a big dorm - probably 35 or so. I haven’t seen any of the rooms, but there are very few “bad” rooms at Andover.

I’ve now officially been in all of the dorm rooms on campus, and they’re pretty much all good. Sure, one in Isham has a nice vew of a brick wall a foot away, but it’s a rather nice size to compensate.

thank you for the info. lookin forward to wakin up 10 mins before school starts

How long before school would you have to wake up in B. Bailey? Are the rooms big? I kind of also posted in Tiger’s thread. now I’ve read that other thread about Isham, and in the students tab in the Dean’s box, there is no link to room information. Just wondering.

Let the Dorm slash Cluster repping begin.
