not even the sales? like at nordstrom, a pair of jeans that was $70 can go down to $20-$30 if noone buys it. i have no idea though cause ive never been confronted with this dilemma. check on the internet for clothes. there's probably a sale on the companies website. like ive seen a northface on the northface website go down to $60 (which you might think is expensive but if you've seen a place that sells northfaces, WOW! it's like $160). definitely check websites and sales at the store :)

also, if you go to boarding school, you'll be just in time for the holiday sales since you're going home around that time.

No offense, but I'm pretty sure what brand I'm wearing is irrelevant to the dress code. Whether I bought my jeans at Nordstrom (by the way, I've never even seen one of those places and would have no idea where to go to find one) or at JC Penny. I mean, it's possible to look nice without buying expensive brands, unless you are trying to say otherwise?

hmm no i meant clothes from those kinds of brands (j. crew, brooks brothers, etc.) could never ever break the dress code. i find those kinds of clothes are made specifically for nerds (they remind me of steve urkel) and nerds could never break the dress code

true, but it's traditional preppy which is nerdy. i can just imagine steve urkel in a puke green suit with a maroon bow tie (oh wait, he did wear the red bow ties).

i find preppy is more abercrombie currently.

yes i am. i find most preppy people are popular or more in the "in" crowd and they definitely would not be caught dead wearing those kinds of clothes. maybe a nerd who likes sweater vests, like cody from the suite life

personally, i think that the preppy look is more from stores such as lacoste, rugby, ralph lauren, etc. abercrombie is over worn by kids and its alittle bit on the sleazy side, but thats just my opinion.

my god, looking at college discussion and seeing the type of kids trying out for exeter as preps is worrying me. seriously guys, talking about what's preppy and what's not? okay trust me. people at exeter don't care what you care and if it's "preppy" or not. amazing, right?

senay. wow. way to wave money in people's faces. People do not just go on shopping sprees every month. I only go when I deserve it or need it. It is not like I am not well off, cuz I am, but still the amount of money you are spending is quite a lot. Anyways, which schools did you get into? Exeter?

exeter is AWESOME! (i go there) and some ppl are preppy and some ppl are the complete opposite. we have a couple kids with moehawks. i mean, an abercrombie button down is cool, but not preppy. j crew, ralph lauren, vineyard vines = preppy (i had never heard of vineyard vines before i came here), you'll see a lot of designer stuff, but remember that half the school is on fa. you don't want to be austentacious about it.

maybe i'll c some of u @ experience exeter!

Don’t worry starcrossed, I’m in the same position. I especially like J.C. Penny because their jeans are about the only ones I can find that fit.

Speaking of jeans, what kind are generally allowed? Do people wear skinny jeans a lot there? How about colored jeans?

ok, so you all say the dress code isnt really an issue. im worried about the no t-shirts rule. does this refer to all short-sleeved shirts or just the “sloppy” kind? is the dress code active on sundays? are tank tops really prohibited even if theyre like…fancy tank tops and not the sporty/basic kind? or does that rule out everything that shows shoulder? and it also says nothing torn/ripped/cutoff. does anyone really care about that or can i wear my supercute distressed jeans and cutoff shorts? (:
