Philosophy at Bard and school comparison with Reed College or Vassar College

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone can comment on the philosophy department at Bard (being that I am planning on majoring in Philosophy).

Second, If anyone is familiar with Reed college please feel free to do a comparison. Any advice is much appreciated. Just so you know where I am coming from, I am very interested in a school with a culture of “living the life of the mind,” as it were.

Thanks.

I’m trying to decide between Bard and Reed, and one of my top possible majors is philosophy. so I would also find any information regarding the above helpful.

Have a look at http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/reed-college/474937-reed-philosophy-department.html?highlight=reed+philosophy#post1063859327</a></p>

Here’s philosophy at Bard:

And here’s philosophy at Vassar:

[Home - Philosophy - Vassar College](http://philosophy.vassar.edu/index.html)

No first-hand experience — a good place to get started would be to contact the philosophy chair at each school.

Finally, not to be wishy-washy, but I don’t think you could go wrong at Bard, Reed, or Vassar. All are stellar schools. However, I think you’d likely find Bard and Reed a bit more discussion-oriented outside the classroom.

It looks as if the OP, who started this thread last April, decided on Vassar.
