This past November, I received a phone call from a Bates freshman. It was wonderful getting to talk to a student and I really enjoyed getting their perspective on the school, but I’m wondering why I was called, especially since other students at my school who are applying to Bates did not. I went to the admissions open house in October, so I’m thinking it might have had something to do with that. Did anyone else get a phone call?? If you did, did you go to one of the open houses?

yeah I got a call too, but not from a freshmen--and I did an overnight there. I guess it's bc we were showing interest? who knows haha

I've never heard of that before. I didnt know our admissions was doing that. Who was the freshman?

Maybe they started it this year. I think they must get the lists of kids who have done overnights/open houses/other admissions things and call them. The student's name was Tatum.

I've heard that name before, but this call thing is interesting. I'll tell you right now though that they don't exactly have phone banks of freshmen working on applicants, haha.

Maybe a few of them volunteered with Admissions to do it? I really I have no idea. I would have asked her, but it probably would've been awkward asking "Why exactly are you calling?" Lol. It was nice getting to have a conversation with a Bates student though. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of the LACs are doing this; it's good PR haha.

Yeah, I think I remember some kind of e-mail going out among people who did hosting at one point or tour guides or something to call people who went to open houses. I remember thinking it was a good PR thing at the time and I'm glad to know that it worked.

i went to an open house in the spring....i havent gotten a phone call from Bates...but i know i have gotten calls from other schools! its not that uncommon
