I recently got a text message from an admissions officer at Carnegie Mellon regarding scheduling a phone call if I have any questions. Would it look bad if I decline the phone call? Did anyone else receive a message from admissions? Does this mean anything?
Here is a copy of the message (without the introductory sentence):
“I’m just checking in to see if you have questions about anything- the admission process and timeline, financial aid or anything else. Let me know if you’d like to schedule a phone call to discuss those questions.”
If you have no questions then it would not be bad to decline a call.
Having a call just to have a call, with no real questions, wasting the time of a busy admissions officer, would be bad.
If you have none, compose a polite reply thanking him/her for reaching out, stating that you have no questions at this time, but you will be in contact if questions do arise.
If you have questions, certainly take advantage of the opportunity.
