Phone vs. paper agenda?

I know it all comes down to your own personal preferences but I’m just curious to know who still uses a paper agenda?

I’m trying to switch to using my iPhone but I guess I’m just not used to the format(time spread instead of a to do list format)? What do you use? And if you’re using an online platform what is it? And how do you use it?

I’ve used gTask pro and I keep my iPad mini with me most times so the list is handy. I find it much better on an iPad than phone but always migrate back to paper to do list. It’s just easier to use. For long term projects, I use a tracker on a spreadsheet. Calendar is on Outlook.

My S has it everything on his android phone. My D (who has an iPhone, a Mac computer, an iPad) still likes a paper agenda. Play around with your phone but do what you feel comfortable with.

Every year I try to use a paper agenda, and every year I give it up within the first couple weeks of the semester. The calendar on my iPhone is just so much easier for me; it’s quick to add things and I always have it on hand. This past April/May, though, I had a ton of things due at once, so I ended up buying a physical white board calendar that I hung up in my room so I could write out in different color markers what I would work on each day in order to get everything done by the end of the semester. I found it incredibly useful, but it takes a few years of trial and error to find the best scheduling platform for you.

I use the Plum Paper Student Planner (similar to lots of big name planners like the Eric Condren Life planner and the Happy planner). It’s hard to explain how it’s set up but basically it’s made for students. There’s columns for each subject and days of the week so all your assignments stay organized. I like this format better than an hourly format that is used on most laptops (like Macbooks) and a list format (which you could make yourself in “Notes”).

For me, writing things down in my planner is quicker than adding every little homework assignment, club meeting, misc. tasks, etc. on my phone/computer. It also helps me remember things better (I’m one of those people that will write out all my notes instead of typing them). I usually just take a few minutes out of my day on Sunday and plan out the upcoming week according to what’s on my syllabi.

However, I will admit that I stop writing things down in my planner when it gets closer to finals. Usually a week or two weeks before finals begin, my schedule gets really hectic so I end up just jotting everything down in “Notes” in an hourly format. I still think getting a paper planner is worth it for me, but if you think you can get by with one on your phone or calendar, than go with that because it’s usually cheaper

My son, about to start his senior year of high school, has faithfully used a paper planner since junior high. He of course is always on his phone, but he loves his paper planner.

My D uses this planner that has a full page for each day. It gives her room to write her homework, social plans, meetings etc. all in one place. https://www.ataglance.com/ataglance/browse/product?prodId=AY44
My S used to use this but switched over to using his phone.

DS just selected a paper planner yesterday. Slightly smaller than regular paper but with daily spaces big enough to quickly write down assignments. I use Outlook at work and share appointments between my personal phone and ipad. I no longer keep a paper planner, but would if I had to track homework.

Both kids still use paper planners. D also doodles in hers, becasue she is artistic, while S just does better with the physical act of having to write things. Having said that, S is in high school and isn’t allowed to use his phone.

I actually use both: Google Calendar for alerts and a whiteboard for important dates like exam days or presentation days. Personally, I prefer using the whiteboard. I color code my due dates based on the course and what exactly is happening (e.g. if it’s a chem exam, I’ll code it as red because it’s a high priority while a paper in writing class is blue because it’s in a class that I do really well in).

I agree with @happy1, play around with your phone and see what you like best as an organizing tool.

There’s a lot of options you can do to stay organized both in writing and on the phone, but I’m sure you’ll find something suits you! Best of luck!

I like using a wall calendar, I know it’s only at home but it helps so much to visualize it.

I don’t know about a new planner. I put recurring information and deadlines on a calendar. I would also put information on my phone. Alas my phones die or I find an entry…oops. Personally, I would never use something that vibrates I also carry on old envelope or similar to jot down notes or dates when I am away from my calendar.

I don’t fully trust my iPhone to keep notes but I do use the calendar to keep track of test dates. I have a paper diary to keep track of assignments and whatever else is required.

My boss prints out her Outlook calendar for the day each morning. Best of both worlds.

I use both a paper agenda and my phone. Basically I write all the things I have to do down and then I set reminders on my phone that tell me when I’m approaching a deadline in case I overlooked something or overestimated how much time I have on something. And also in case something happens with my phone not saving an event or I accidentally type in the wrong day I have it all written down so it’s the best of both worlds.

I love paper planners. It’s so satisfying to check stuff off with my pencil.

I use google calendar for reminders and appointments, because it is so integrated into everything and easy to use. However if I do not have my laptop handy, I like using paper agendas. It is a good way to recite things from memory as well as jot down any thoughts I have, it is is very satisfying but I rarely go back and look at it, which is why sometimes electronic is more practical for me

Personally, I prefer using Google Calendar + keeping a to-do list on a memo app on my phone. I tried using a paper agenda my freshman year but I ended up not really using it- I’d always forget to bring it or if I did, I wouldn’t even look at it outside of class because I already wrote it down on my phone.
