Phones!

Hey everyone. Ok, now i know this is like, jumping the gun a bit, but my current cell phone contract is about to run out, and i was wondering what the heck i am going to do if i get aaccepted and go to McGill.

Heres my situation, i live in Rhode Island, and will be potentially living in Montreal for 8 months of the year and in RI for 4 months of the year. What should I do for phone service without getting huuuuuuuuge romaing and long distance charges. When at McGill, i want to be able to call fellow students at my leisure was well as my family in RI. WHen in RI, i want to be able to contact all of my RI friends cheaply!! WHat a conundrum!

Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

jilloyo: What most US students do during the school year is get a cheap FIDO or similar Canadian plan that lets you call in the Montreal area, and have unlimited free incoming calls. My d. calls us up and we return the call since we have a one-price unlimited plan in the US and Canada and she has free incoming calls. For talk with friends she buys phone cards to call back to the U.S. The MCI international card sold at COSTCO is particularly good and reasonable. I suggest one of the pre-paid plans for the four months at home during the summer.

another plan is to get the Verizon North America Plan. its 60 bucks a month and gives you
1000 - IN minutes (Verizon to Verizon)
Free Nights and Weekends
450 Other minutes

It wont be long distance or roaming for you to call home or montreal or for home to cally ou.
what will be long distance is for montreal to call you, but i've found 2 ways around this.
1) most of my friends don't care
2) the one's who do will text me, and ill call them. so that way its not using their long distance minutes

wow! thanks so much to both of you! what great help! I'll definately look into both of those plans!!!
