Photo essay?

Does anyone know what a photo essay is? Several people claim to have used it along w/ their applications.

Also, would it be a good idea to send in a picture album in the form of scrapbook to show snapshots of my achievements/ EC involvement (I started(co-founder) a summer camp to teach kids about different cultures this summer & have pictures. Also, I have intense pictures from Sci Bowl (3rd place in state)and some w/ my involvement with Persian Cultural Association, which is the focus of my essay, and of course other pics.) Would it be a good idea to include these pictures to show admission officers who I am as a person beyond what my essays can portray?

From what I have read, you can do that, but do not expect them to actually look through it. If you are thinking of sending it in lieu of the essay, you can’t do it. You need the essay.

nono, I will definitely be sending in the essay (and any optional supplments), an abstract, and an extra recommendation letter. I thought of the scrapbook b/c I’ll be applying to some of the most competitive Ivy’s and I wanted something to keep me in the admission officers’ heads/ separate me from the crowd.

Colleges(likely list):
Stanford,Princeton, Yale,Harvard,Vanderbilt,Georgetown,John Hopkins, Duke, Dartmouth,Columbia, Univ of TN, Brown, Wash U St Louis

I suggest that you read the Gatekeepers, it is a book about the admissions process as the journalist shadows a Wesleyan admissions officer. There is a kid that did something similar to what you did. Read about it.

I’ll check it out, thanks!
