I need to upload a photo for an app. Basically all of my pictures are around 4 MB in size. When I paste them in word then the Word doc is around 4MB in size. I have tried shrinking them in a variety of ways but the doc is always 4MB in size. The common app says it can only accommodate files 500 KB or smaller. How are am I supposed to attach the picture??? All me pictures are have too big file sizes to fit for the common app. Thanks.

Change the size and convert it to JPEG.

Open up MS paint. Shrink the image to the appropriate size in there. Save them as JPEGs (.jpg). That will make the actual image file much smaller and less complex.

how do you shrink it on paint?

Alright, open a new image in paint. Then go to Image>Atrributes in your toolbar. Select a smaller size with a similar aspect ratio as the picture you have. Let's say your picture is 4000 px by 3000 px, change it to 100 px by 75 px. You'll probably have to figure out the proportions yourself, but that's not hard math. Anyways, once you have the white space at the right size you want, find the picture. Copy it, then paste it into paint. Once you've got it pasted, resize it with your mouse, making sure to hold down the "SHIFT" key to maintain the proper proportions. Continue to shrink it until it fits right into the white space you created earlier. Then go to File>Save As. Enter a title for it. Then in the pull down menu "Save as type:," Select JPEG (.jpg). That's the new file you can place in your MS Word document.

crop it then drag the corners inwards - make sure you try to keep your dimensions the same

What do your pictures look like? I'm trying to decide whether to use one of my senior pictures or not....

THANK YOU SO MUCH I FINALLY GOT IT TO WORK AFTER A VERY LONG TIME, using a combo of the information above and experiementing. My sincere appreciation.
