photography and UMASS Amherst

I am a junior in a high ranked catholic school in MA. I have recently started looking at colleges. I took a quiz on collegeboard.com and it gave me some schools good for me. on that came up is UMASS Amherst. I would like to major in the feild of photography. now I am not the brightest bulb in the bunch, my gpa as of last year was below 2.0. but this year I am trying to get at least a 2.5, trying really hard. also I know sat's play a big role in getting into college, so if I do okay on those I hope to get in. do you think I even have a chance? If there is I am willing to try. I heard that 80% of students get in, but that it is getting hard now because the population growing. what do you think my chances are?

Hello - have you considered Massart ? The gpa requirements may be a reach but if you can present a strong portfolio it may help you.
Because its in the massachusetts state college system - tuition for in state students is very reasonable. Anotehr consideration is UMASS Darthmouth -as they are accredited by the NASAD - not sure if they have a photography major there or not.
You can try attending National portfolio day in November in Boston - which is to be held at the Art Institute of Boston this year - they should have representatives from both schools there
