Physical Fitness? Diversity?

I just got my acceptance to USAFA and I’m super excited to be able to begin this challenge in only a couple more months. But I’m not in the best shape and I barely made it with my physical fitness test. My greatest worry is that I’ll be less physically in shape as everyone else and that I’ll be looked down upon for it. I feel that adapting to military lifestyle and other hardships are things that I can work on and handle, but failing in the physical aspect is my worst fear right now.

Basically, if you struggle during BCT, how harsh is the punishment?

Also, I’m a Korean-American female and I’m wondering how well diversity is treated at the academy. I know the majority of cadets are caucasian and other such stats, but I was wondering about the feel at the academy from a personal perspective.

Congrats on your acceptance!!! I got my acceptance a couple of days ago. From what I’ve read, if you struggle during the physical training during BCT they will probably give you more attention and make sure you get stronger and faster.

For diversity, I think everyone is treated equally. It is a service academy, so everyone there respects you no matter who you are.

WORK OUT! Seriously. If you fail the PFT, you will be put on athletic probation, which is not fun at all.

Start working out daily with an emphasis on running, push-ups, sit-ups and flutter kicks. Make this your priority above all else, then show up to I-day determined, that no matter what, you’re not going to quit.

Hey guys,
I applied to the Air Force Academy also; however, I have not recieved my letter of acceptance. Does anyone know exactly how the process works with the acceptance letters being sent, or when they will send the rejection letters?

cooltowns - USAFA uses a rolling admissions process where more qualified candidates are offered appointments then the slightly less qualified and so on. All candidates will be notified of their final status by April 15th. Good luck!

Thank you ConnorQuinn, that got my hopes back up because I was concerned that I wasnt going to get one at all with me not being in the first set of letters sent out. Going to keep praying!

00kim00,

as ramius said, start working out. go for runs, do pushups throughout the day, and do flutterkicks (or other ab workouts). failing fitness tests bring their own trouble, but the biggest thing to worry about is how your peers percieve you. now, cadets do not expect everyone to be ultimate athletes, but if you’re breaking after 20 push-ups and can’t run a mile, then your peers will not think very highly of you. Even if you only have 5 min at a time, drop and do some pushups

I will be a flight commander this summer for 1st BCT and I can tell you that the most important thing is that you try your absolute best throughout BCT and never quit.

Best of luck.
