Can anyone that has taken this course tell me a little bit more about it. I am interested in and enjoy physics, I am just wondering what the work load is like.

If I’m not mistaken, that’s an Honors Physics course?

My roommate is taking it, as well as some other kids. The smartest kids struggle in that course because it introduces concepts that are hard to grasp, and there is a crap load of programming that will take hours upon hours for you to do. The class average on tests are usually about 60 or so percent, and that’s curved up to a B+ or something ridiculous like that. Pretty much if you get a 50%, you’ll get a B or somethin. It’s really really hard.

I took this one, but it was 4 years ago.

Things depend greatly on who is teaching. My experience couldn’t be more different from that of Heplayer’s roommate. There was absolutely no programming in my class (and frankly I question that - what programming could there possibly be in an introductory physics class? most of the students in the class probably have no programming experience whatsoever…)

I don’t think honors has more difficult concepts than the usual mechanics course. I’d say you end up covering more topics, and the problems are somewhat more difficult, so you have to work at a faster pace. Grading is up to the prof., but in my class, the tests were relatively close to problems covered in class, so as long as you worked hard, you would do very well on the test. Average test scores were in the 70%-90% area, and almost everyone in the class got some flavor of A.

I’d say that 260 is a very difficult class that revolves around more difficult concepts (compared to 240.) But 160 was not like that (at least IME.)

Yeah, they actually re-vamped 160 recently, and included in that is python; it’s a significantly different course now than it was even a few years ago.

seriously? Well I don’t mind the extra work (I think I am gonna take an easy eng 100 sections to counter it). It’s just that I took AP Physics, and honestly just had a bad day and got a 4. You may think I’m just saying that but really, I feel that if I took it again I could definitely get a 5. For that reason I don’t really want to take regular Physics and be bored. That’s the same reason I am in honors math and honors programming right now and I enjoy it. The curve doesn’t hurt either

What is “honors programming?” Serious question.

Eng 151…

“Accelerated Introduction to Computers and Programming,” I see. The term “honors” confused me.

I’m used to calling things honors, my bad

Crazy. I guess I should apologize to Heplayer92; I couldn’t believe that programming is involved in the class.

Why did they choose to make this change? Weird.
