hey guys! so next year i will be a new 10th grader at choate. i am taking biology this year, while most freshman are taking physics this year. They told me I can take physics next year (with mostly 9th graders) and chem in my junior year (with mostly 10th graders), or take chemistry this year with my grade and then take physics with freshman my junior year. I was just wondering which class you guys think i should take// which one is harder???
THANK YOU SO MUCH!

I am in the exact same situation (new 10th grader at Choate next year as well!) I am going to take physics next year. I learned that a lot of new 10th graders take physics so I plan to follow that course

I’m not a student but have a child at Choate who is currently a 5th Former (11th grader). He took physics in 9th grade, Chem in 10th and Biology this year. My impression for him is that Chem is considered one of the toughest courses at Choate (he was in honors, which I think made it even harder). Physics was not quite as challenging.

So, it might make sense for you to take Chem as a 10th grader and then Physics as an 11th grader. My rational for this is that Junior year at Choate is considered very tough. Plus you have the added pressure of it being a critical year for college. Why not take the less challenging course your Junior year?

Of course, you should probably speak with the school, and in particular your adviser to be sure you don’t need some of the principles taught in Physics for Chemistry. Also, if you would feel uncomfortable being in Physics as an 11th grader with mostly 9th graders you might want to take Physics first.

Oh and congratulations on going to Choate. It is a fantastic school with great kids. You will get a terrific education. And don’t worry about being a new kid in 10th grade, lots of kids don’t start until 10th grade.
