<p>Hello. I must fulfill my U0 requirements for physics. Must I take PHYS 101 and PHYS 102 / PHYS 131 and PHYS 142? Or may I take for example PHYS 180 and PHYS 102. Or mayn't I take PHYS 131 or 108 at all, since I haven't done high school physics? (it doesn't state on the website but I'm afraid there might be prerequisites)
Also, what is the difference really between PHYS 101 and PHYS 131, besides the difference in calculus?</p>
<p>(I haven't done physics in grade 11 or 12, only mechanics grade 10, but I took chemistry throughout all of high school and have some knowledge of electromagnetic radiation and thermodynamics).</p>
<p>Would you please be so kind as to assist me? I will also ask the academic advising system but it might tell me to do that which is 'recommended' but not the only way.</p>

<p>I believe the 101 and 102 are equivalent to 131 and 142. If you are a normal science or engineering student, you most likely want to do 131 and 142. You will need to be taking the normal calculus courses along with these courses and some prior calculus knowledge would be helpful. 101 and 102 are for students who may not have had a lot of math and science courses in high school or intended for students major in life science. 101 is not calculus based so in theory you don’t even need to take calculus concurrently. 180 is an elective courses and probably not a core course that would satisfy physics requirement.</p>
