Hey guys, is it possible to get an 800 on the Physics SAT II knowing only the stuff in the Princeton Review book? If not, what other stuff would I need to know? Any suggestions for other books/resources that I could study from?

I used Princeton Review and i got a 660 (and I'm not that bad at physics, I pulled of an A in AP physics c and pulled off a 5 on the AP physics mechanics exam)... I felt that the Princeton Review book is only good if you have learned all the material on the test and you need a good review. I don't even think this book was written specifically for the sat II. The first 8 chapters of the book are straight from their AP test prep book. They just leave out the calculus based review. In addition, the book doesn't go too far in depth. On the other hand, if you have learned all the material on the test, PR makes for a perfect study guide. But if you want to learn this stuff yourself, look elsewhere.

Where would you suggest I look?

the sparknotes book is pretty good

Would that give me everything i need to know for an 800?

I guess sparknotes is the best option out there. Honestly, Princeton Review, Barron's and Kaplan suck. As I said before, the stuff in the Princeton Review book was made for the AP course (they just took out the AP parts with calculus). The material is EXACTLY the same as the material in the AP book. Barron's is horrific and so is Kaplan. I don't know if Sparknotes would give you everything you need to know to get an 800, but its the best option out there. If you haven't taken AP physics B, I wouldn't even suggest taking the physics sat II.

I'll have completed half the AP Physics B course by the time I take the SAT II in december...What would be the best book to supplement my knowledge then?

sparknotes is really good in that it guides you through everything you need to know for the test. As a "bonus", the way they word things makes it really easy to understand the subject. Also, the practice tests were more or less as hard as the real one, or at least they were close the June 06 SAT.

barron's is horrific?

....

i personally love barrons. i think that it overprepares you somewhat which is good...from my experience sparknotes, and kaplan suck. princeton review is okay...but i think barrons is better.

All I can tell you is that I'm using Sparknotes to teach myself everything except mechanics, because my school is retarded. It seems to be doing an OK job, so it should probably help you get an 800, maybe...?

I used Barron's and got a 660. In October I am taking it again.

what is the curve on this test? for example, how many questions would i need to get right to make a 600?
