Piatigorsky International Cello Festival March 9-18

<p>The USC Thornton School of Music and the Los Angeles Philharmonic in partnership with the Colburn School & Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra present the Piatigorsky International Cello Festival from March 9-18, 2012.</p>

<p>Artistic director is the famous cellist, Ralph Kirshbaum. Narrator will be John Rubinstein.</p>

<p>The festival will bring together masters of the instrument and young cellists from around the world for a unique celebration. Featured will be orchestral concerts, chamber music performances, master classes and interactive events.</p>

<p>Venues will be Bovard Auditorium, Alfred Newman Recital Hall and Simon Ramo Recital Hall which are all located on the SC campus. Other events will be held at the Disney Concert Hall, Thayer Hall and Zipper Concert Hall. </p>

<p>Conductors are Neeme Jarvi, Courtney Lewis and Hugh Wolff.</p>

<p>The opening concert of the festival will be held on the SC campus in Bovard Auditorium on Friday, March 9, 2012 at 7:30. Hugh Wolff will conduct. Orchestra will be composed of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra and artists from the USC Thornton School of Music and The Colburn School.</p>

<p>Artists will perform concertos by Haydn, Vivaldi, Saint-Saens and the American premier of T. Demenga’s Double Concerto.</p>

<p>The closing concert will be held at the Disney Concert Hall on March 18th at 7:30. Artists performing that evening are Ronald Leonard, Mischa Maisky, Steven Isserlis, Laurence Lesser, Nathaniel Rosen, Jeffrey Solow and Raphael Wallfisch.</p>

<p>Courtney Lewis will conduct the cello ensemble.</p>
