Pick a Prof

Is it worth it? Is it expensive? Is it other places than down here in the South?

What's Pick A Prof? I'm in the south and I've never heard the term before.

it's a website that gives you the stats on professors... i think that its five dollars for a four month subs. but im not positive. if you dont know any other students at the school that would know the professors, i would say that its definately worth it

$5/semester....well worth every penny! All of S's friends at Texas A&M use Pickaprof when planning their classes. Not only will you see how many A's, B's, etc. a particular prof has given in a particular class, you can read comments by students on their experiences with that prof. In a school the size of Texas A&M, you just are not often going to know someone who has taken the prof you are considering.

Also check out Ratemyprofessor.com

I think the difference between pickaprof and ratemyprofessor is that ratemyprofessor is stricly based on student input. Is that correct? Pickaprof has an official relationship with the schools, and the schools provide the data on grades issued by the profs.

I pointed out to D (after we signed up for it), to keep in mind that complaints are much more likely to be heard than compliments. A useful tool (in college students' eyes) of pickaprof is that it gives the official distribution of grades in the class....what % are A's, B's, etc. It at least helps to know what they're getting in for.

www.ratemyprofessor.com is the free counterpart to the site you mentioned. give it a try. remember using site like these and avoiding harsh grading professors can have a rather large impact your childs overall GPA. Professors are ranked on
ease - Some students may factor in the easiness or difficulty of the professor or course material when selecting a class to take

clarity - A professor's organization and time management skills can make a great difference on what you get out of the class. How well does the professor teach the course material? etc. etc..

overall quality - The Overall Quality rating is determined by the average rating of the Helpfulness and Clarity given by all users. An overall rating of 3.5 to 5 is considered good (yellow smiley face). An overall rating of 2.5 to 5 is considered average (green smiley face). An overall rating of 1 to 2.5 is considered poor (blue sad face). The Easiness rating is NOT included when calculating the Overall Quality rating.

and rater interest- (classes students would recommend taking before graduating, as they feel enlightened as a direct result of that course.)

That should sum it up. I know these sites can be annoying at times; however, very very useful.
