I've been checking everyday to see if books for one of my classes would show up and it still hasn't. I decided to go ahead and order the books for the other classes but see that I cannot do the pickup because it had to be done by Dec. 29th at 7am. Is my only option to have it shipped to my dorm...? Seems kind of pointless and unnecessarily expensive.

just go buy them at the bookstore when you get back?

I've never bought them through the school yet. some of the books are like class readers, we can walk in and buy them without ordering beforehand? thanks..

ooo did you plan on buying them through school or from online places? if from school you can always walk into the book store for them, course readers sell at the course reader stores in westwood... but at the textbook store you definitely don't need to order beforehand

The deadline for the "pick up" option was Dec. 29 so if you shop at UCLA's store online your only choice is to ship very quickly to your home or dorm address.

Free shipping and no tax if you buy from Amazon

What is the source for this? I thought free shipping does not apply to textbooks.

While it's true that not all items on Amazon ship free, if it's sold directly by Amazon and not through a third party and/or Marketplace seller, it is almost always eligible for Free Super Saver Shipping. All the textbooks that I've looked up on Amazon in the past were eligible for free shipping, as long as Amazon sold them directly.

I think the only items that Amazon sells and does not offer FSSS are ones that are too heavy (some speaker systems for instance).

that book on amazon is 6 dollars cheaper than the one they sell at ucla store (although ucla store is "custom" edition which is no difference what so ever) but you decide if the 5 days wait compare to a 5 min walk to book store is worth the 6 dollar saving :)
from my experience most books you buy online is about the same price as ucla store, the best option is buy from other students who don't want to sell them back for the ripoff price, or if you can find a really good price used... if both are off then ucla store might be more convenient
