Should I take these two classes for junior year? I'm doing pretty well in Honors Chemistry and Spanish 5-6, but I don't know if that's enough to pass the exams. I heard that most colleges won't except AP Chem and AP Spanish anyway. I'll be taking AP English and AP US History as well next year. Will it be too much?

What do you guys think? If anyone has taken these courses or knows anyone who's taken these, any advice is appreciated?

I’ve taken/am taking all of these courses…

I took AP Chemistry as a junior, and at the time was not sure where I was going to college. I got a 4, and considering I still have an undecided major, am not sure if I will get any credit. I’ll receive elective credit, most likely. One reason I took it was for a boost in my GPA too since AP classes have a stronger weight than Honors Classes, so that’s always a motivation.

I am in AP Spanish now after 3 years of Honors level Spanish courses. If you’re in Spanish 5-6, you are most likely qualified to take it. I took the AP exam today and I think I did well.

I don’t know which AP Eng. you are referring to, but I did Lang. last year and am in Lit. now. I would definitely take AP Lang. I don’t know how different Honors and AP classes are at your school, but there was not a huge difference in mine for this class. I felt the AP kids wrote a few more papers and learned some different terminology, but it’s totally worth it. I got a 4 on the Lang. Exam.

I feel the same way about US as I do about AP Lang. Do it!!! I got a 5 on that one!

I took 4 APs junior year–Calc, Chem, Lang & Comp, and US, so you can definitely do it too !

@freckles12 thanks for your input! I think I’ll go ahead with the AP…

AP chem with a bad teacher is no bueno. AP chem with a good teacher will probably really great and fun (assuming you like science). Everyone in general complains about AP spanish at my school but that’s probably because both teachers suck.

@SwaggyC Yea, I guess it always comes down to the teachers…

I agree, it all depends on the teachers. Pick AP classes that are known for having good teachers.

Those are the two APs of doom at my school. Don’t take those APs, IMO, since those APs are the only 2 that actually require you to be really good at the subject. You really need to already be fluent in Spanish for either of the AP Spanish tests, not just passing out of Spanish 1-4, and the same ideology can be applied to Chem.
