Does anyone have pictures of what Georgetown dorm rooms look like? I especially want to see them from different residence halls (new south, village c, etc)

I saw this other post with some information and a link to a slideshow, if it's any help. There were few pictures if the dorms, maybe about 5 or 6, some at the beginning and some at the end. Something is better than nothing, right? Hope this helps.

what dorm is that? Are dorms usually nicer or worse than that? how are the singles?

I swear there was a Georgetown website that had pictures of all the dorms and possibly a 360 degree view... but now I can't seem to find it!

Can't say for other dorms, for Harbin: (but I think it's pretty standard)

Big desk with shelves. Big closet. Carpeted floors and air conditioned. Not extremely spacey (depending on how you do your beds bunked/not), but you definitely have some extra space - make use of the space under beds. As a freshmen you will not get a single, unless it is a special case.

The dorm in those pics is Harbin.

Village C gets their own bathrooms. But the rest of us don't have to worry about cleaning ours.

Here's some photos I found on Flickr of one guy's dorm in Harbin, shows both before he moved in and in the process. A simple search for "Georgetown dorm" will yield a few more pictures, but some are from the law center, and other's don't seem to be 100% clear on their origin

Harbin rooms (like in the pictures) are about 200 square feet, as are New South and Village C West rooms. But in Village C, the private bathroom cuts into that space. The private bathroom probably sounds good to incoming freshmen, but the shared ones are clean (much cleaner than you'll keep a private one) and I never had to wait for a shower. I preferred the extra space of New South and Harbin. Makes the rooms into better hangout spots.

Darnall rooms are a little smaller, about 175 square feet, and it's way far away from Leo's (dining hall). In theory, a place to eat is going to open within Darnall itself at some point, but that was supposed to be open at the start of fall semester and I'm pretty sure it still doesn't exist. I wouldn't count on it. Not that you get to pick your dorm anyway.

I thought the dining hall is O'Donovan?

Leo's= O'Donovan (it's named after Leo O'Donovan)

New Student General Room Information has some good information, not only on room size, but number of drawers, size of beds, etc.

Harbin: 185 sq ft (sample floor plan)
Darnell: 175 (sample floor plan)
VCW: 181 (sample floor plan)
New South: 200 (sample floor plan)

Do you get to list your order of preference for dorms? Do EA candidates get first pick?

Nope–it’s totally random.

Each Residence Hall has it’s own pluses and minuses. Darnall becomes a family and is near Leavey Center, Harbin is in clusters and near ICC, VCE/VCW have bathrooms, New South is the biggest (known as the most social) and is near Leos. Housing is done completely random (unless you apply to a Living Learning Community), so you don’t really know where you and your roommate will end up. All I know, however, is even if a person does not get their “choice” residence hall, they end up loving wear they live. The RA’s and Residence Life staff try to make that so.

If you are looking for pictures, I suggest checking out the Georgetown Housing Facebook Group.
Hope this helps. Hoya Saxa :)

Wait - housing is totally random? We don’t even get to have a first choice? That’s annoying ):

but the rumor is that if you put down a choice in the comments section of CHARMS, it will work… I put that I would like to be in Harbin and it worked, but it could have been by random, but everyone on my floor said they put that as well, so I dunno if it’s just chance per se… also what was random was that everyone on my floor talked to each other more or less during CHARMS…

I said Village C, and I got New South. You don’t get to pick your house, but you end up loving wherever you are placed ;)

Just got Harbin. One trick (not sure if it really works, but I think it worked for me) is that since I wanted to avoid the larger halls with tons of people (New South), I put down that I wanted a single-sex floor/quiet floor. Harbin has single-sex clusters.
