Pin Number And Submittal Help!

<p>So I tried to submit the FAFSA but I needed to create a pin. I created a pin but it says that I need to wait a few days for it to get approved. Until then, it will not submit.</p>

<p>How am I supposed to know when I get confirmation that my pin has been approved?</p>

<p>Also, I applied to more than 10 schools so I have a second batch of schools I need to send the FAFSA to. Am I powerless to do this until I get my first batch of 10 schools successfully submitted?</p>

<p>IIRC, you’ll get an email about your PIN but they’re often activated within a day. Remember that one of your parents must apply for a PIN as well and you should both keep them in a safe place as they’ll be needed every year. You can’t submit FAFSA to any schools without a PIN, so you certainly can’t amend one to add a second batch until the first FAFSA processes. That usually takes only a day or two.</p>

<p>You don’t need to have your pin verified to be able to submit the FAFSA. This means as long as you’ve applied for a pin (and your parent has also applied for a pin) then you will be able to sign and submit the FAFSA. Make sure you choose what the pin will be so that you can put it into your application rather than having to wait for a random pin number. Here’s some details:</p>

<p>After determining that 97 percent of PIN applicants provide correct information (i.e. social security number), the Department decided to make this real-time PIN available not only for first-time PIN applicants but also for those who have lost or forgotten a previous PIN. After receiving the real-time PIN, applicants will be able to change the PIN to a number that is meaningful to them.</p>

<p>First-time PIN applicants will instantly receive a conditional PIN that will allow them to electronically sign their FAFSA on the Web. The conditional PIN can only be used to sign the original application that students and/or parents are completing at the time they applied for the PIN. The data supplied by the PIN applicant will then be verified with the Social Security Administration (SSA). If the applicant’s PIN information is accurate, the conditional PIN will then be good for all processes that require a PIN in the future. If the applicant’s data does NOT pass the SSA match, they will receive a SAR with a rejected signature comment and the school will receive a rejected ISIR. The students and/or parents will then need to provide the required FAFSA signatures. Students and parents will need to correct PIN data to receive their PINs.</p>

We ask the student to apply for a new PIN using the correct information if the information provided on the PIN Application is not correct, or to contact the SSA if the information is correct. The student is unable to use the PIN until the SSA match is successful.

<p>I just submitted my forms tonight going with this method and the form submitted fine. There’s also a few other websites/financial aid officers backing up what I quote above.</p>

<p>However, I don’t know how to add additional colleges (in addition to the 10 I already submitted). For this, I assume I have to wait until the Pin verifies?</p>

<p>No, you’ll have to wait until your FAFSA processes to amend it. You’ll get an email stating that your SAR is available, then you can check it over and amend to add the new schools.</p>
