Pitt or BU

So i was accepted to both Pitt and BU. I am hoping to eventually pursue medicine. Which would be better? I know Pitt has a good reputation for its Med school but how much does being an undergrad there help? I have cousins who are now practicing medicine- 1 who attended Pitt and 1 BU and both rave about their experiences. I am torn between the 2. So which do you think would be best for me?
Thanks!!

I like Pitt more than BU. My dad put it this way... BU is a private school acting like a state school and Pitt is a state school acting like a private school. I'm also pre-med (but also biomedical engineering), and one thing I really like about Pitt is that there is a HOSPITAL right on campus!

My daughter was in the similar posititon and chose Pitt over Boston just this week. Our observations were that academically, the schools were similar. The environment was also similar with multiple colleges in one city and an urban campus. Pitt seemed to be superior in offering better housing, better perks for students (such as free public transportation, cheap sports and arts tickets, free copies, discounted food, more nearby restaurants and shops), and a more cohesive campus. Although Boston is a better city in general (in most people's opinions), Pittsburgh and Oakland seem to provide cheaper, more attainable entertainment for students than Boston.

The students and staff at Pitt seemed much warmer, happier and more laid back than BU. Although my daughter is not interested in medicine, I can't imagine a better place for pre-med after hearing of all the discoveries made there (transplants, polio vaccine, MRI's etc) and seeing the number of hospitals on campus.

Finally, the full OOS tuition scholarship offered by Pitt, compared to half tuition at Boston, pushed the decision to Pitt. Had the finances been equal, it would have been a tougher decision that could have gone either way. With today's unstable economy and an uncertain financial future...saving nearly $90K over four years pushed the scales in favor of Pitt.

Good luck with your decision. Both schools are winners.

wow...is that true at BU there building are like 10 miles apart and u have to live find transportation to go from class to class? lol

^ I think the longest WALK would be ten MINUTES... haha... I'm not a hundred percent sure, but I think my tour guide said that you could get from one end of campus to the other in ten minutes if you walked briskly

honestly, i'd go with Pitt, on this one...

I considered both Pitt & BU, but considering the weird lack of campus at BU and the bigger price tag, I chose Pitt. Students seem much more friendly and chill; no regrets here.

I agree, oceangirl. So far everyone I meet from Pitt is very enthusiastic and friendly. I like the school spirit atmosphere and city campus with plenty of green space.

It seems as though many people are having the exact same dilemma as I am between a half tuition BU scholarship and full tuition Pitt. Interesting...I feel like Pitt will be the way to go though, thanks to the discussion I've seen here. I'm visiting both in the next week so hopefully I will love Pitt more and make the financial decision easier!

If you are pursuing a career in healthcare, then Pitt offers many more opportunities to the undergraduate student. There are many internship positions available in healthcare at Pitt. The hospitals and research are ON campus and are welcoming to Pitt students. The med school at Pitt is ranked in the top 15 nationally, very impressive. Pitt also has a more cohesive campus and green space. Oakland is a collegetown. Pittsburgh may be a small city but it has big city offerings. We chose Pitt! (can u tell?)

I hope SandyBeach doesn't copyright post #2, because I plan to use that analogy frequently. Recent visitors to Pitt seem to love it, but they all received scholarship money & were admitted into the honors program/college.
